New report on an army level game of the Battle of Lodz using Op 14 by Richard Brooks … now up on P.B.Eye-Candy/Lodz

picture

Op 14 enabled several days of this huge battle to be refought to conclusion in a single afternoon without too much time pressure on the players thumbs up.

The rules were published in WD's Nugget 236 – Bob gave a link to the rules in an earlier thread TMP link

Excellent work, I love the scenery.

BTW, the correct Polish pronunciation of Lodz is "Woodge". I never would have guessed that. But I learned that when I spent a good deal of time there a few years ago.

The scenery should have been getting icier and icier, I think, Abwehrschlact …

Not my kit of course but yes, the way the layout was done has an engaging old school charm, almost Wellsian, but also provided a clear and efficient template for playing the game on (which otherwise might have become overbearingly complex).

Of course, like many a good game, playing inside the bubble it becomes real – and that polished wooden town hall is, in a meaningful sense, the centre of Lodz …

(I'd better stop there as the men in white coats are coming up the driveway wink)

I like to use identical shiny wooden buildings for lots of my games too.

Looks like fun, I always wanted to do that battle. I bought a boardgame on it once but looking at the rules and then the way they designed the counters (you had to turn them with each loss so it could have 4 steps on the front, ugh)I never even tried it. OP 14 is the way to go it seems.

I'd love to see a write-up of your scenario – OB's, scenario rules, victory conditions.

Hi vtsaogames … I believe Ian's scenario will be fully write up in The Nugget in due course. Soon, indeed … and I suspect it will become generally available once published.
