Well that is pretty cool. Of course I can hear the screams of that is not in the book. |

I've gotta say, the troll catapults look stupid. The orcs look overdone. However, it looks like it will be a pretty good battle scene for a fantasy film. I'll wait for it to come out on video. |

I'd say the Goblins from the book got their vitamin supplements. Why oh why do they have to with great literature? It was a fine story w/o all this . But I'll see it anyway. Just don't sit next to me. :-) |

Of course I can hear the screams of that is not in the book. Ok, I'll bite: it's ridiculous. But not only because it's not in the book, it's not even consistent with his other, over-the-top films. Fifty years before the War of the Ring, the goblins of the mountains are bigger and better armed than the Uruk-hai of Isengard, which were explicitly bigger and badder than other orcs. Not to mention better marchers. And anyone approving of the troll-a-pults (with boulders which appear to grow in flight) just lost their right to moan about Games Workshop's ludicrous warmachines. ;) |

These are suppose to be the same orcs who got their butts kicked up and down the Misty Mountains 80 or so years early by the dwarves? I imagine Roman legions with less discipline then these guys. Oh well I guess a decent film of the Hobbit wont happen in my life time. Peter Jackson is the new George Lucas. May they both rot where ever bad directors go to rot in hell. |

My thinking on the troll catapult is that perhaps GW said they wanted a big model to sell so Jackson made them in the movie for the GW fans to buy. I'll see it in the theater just because a large battle like this needs to be seen at least once on a big screen. Than I am done with the hobbit movies. I am going to pretend they were never made. |

I quite liked the second film because it was such a massive departure from there book I could imagine it was just another fantasy film, will watch this one on the same basis. One day someone will make a film of my favorite childhood book… |

Well at least you have a healthy attitude about the whole mess. Me? I'm not so mature. My thinking on the troll catapult is that perhaps GW said they wanted a big model to sell so Jackson made them in the movie for the GW fans to buy. Possibly. If GW paid gobbos of money to get the license, they probably have some influence in at least a small way. |

Those 'troll-a-pults' are pretty damn accurate for a first shot eh? I don't think I'll waste any money on this one . |

About the Gobbo's, compared to the LOTR Goblins: SCALE CREEP! |

My wife watched the trailer and commented, "those are just Uruk-Hai with different headgear." One of the many reasons I love her. :-) |

I think Sauron got the crappy 2nd string Orc army in LOTR. Just Sayin. |

I'd rather have that film than NO film! More big budget fantasy is always good to me. |

Wouldn't the trolls be more useful as trolls, not just trucks? |

One day someone will make a film of my favorite childhood book… Well said – I couldn't have put it any better. Jackson just about got away with his daft flights of fantasy in the LOTR trilogy but this utterly lacks the artless simplicity and charm of the original book that started it all… Radagast's ludicrous sledge zipping around pulled by rabbits was bad enough… it just gets worse and worse… bah humbug! |

This installment of the 'Hobbit' has moved the films into the same category as 'Hawk the Slayer' and the 1st Dungeons and Dragons movie. Movies so bad they become fun. |
