I've been looking for rossley Tenders for my IWI games but as yet have not found one for the price. The other day at the train store I picked up the Matchbox 1910 Renault for $1. USD I cut off the roof and half of the rear box and made some minor changes to the windscreen and lamps. With a green paint job its a fair pass for a Crossley. Many will scorn my pinchbeck conversion but for a buck – I mean, c'mon. I also got an Ertl 1932 Ford but I can't come up with a good Irish war conversion. Might just use the chassis. Any ideas? |

Go on eBay and search for a Matchbox Models of Yesteryear Crossley Tender. Nice models on a variety of paint scheme. Very reasonable prices. Just avoid the morons who think that the original box makes it more "collectible". It's a toy! |

What they said above. Also check at model train shows. Matchbox Models of Yesteryear often show up at reasonable prices. |

Yes, Crossleys are very inexpensive on eBay. That's were I've gotten all of mine. Here's a bunch on now: auction You can see how I converted one on this blog post (just scroll down a bit): link It is based on a 1920s semi-armored Crossley used in Dublin: link Jim |

Right. I've seen them on Ebay, but with shipping its about $6. USD I know my knock off is not exact but for $1 USD I'm OK. I have to cover the hood in card to get the right shape and put a new grill on. Great grenade screen, Col.Campbell. The Dublin Brigades started adding wire hooks to their grenades to catch on the Mesh covers on the Lancias and Crossleys. |
