"With the success of Operation Moked during the opening stages of the Six-Day War; Dassault Aviation couldn't have paid for a better advertisement of their Mirage III CJ (also known as the Shahak or Skyblazer in Hebrew to the Israelis). Developed during the 1950s, it was the first European-built fighter designed to exceed Mach 2 during horizontal flight. Eager to attract potential buyers, Dassault invited members of the Israeli Air Force (or IAF) to visit their factory; test the new aircraft and provide feedback. And with the addition of the MiG-21 to the Arab arsenal, Israel placed an order for the Mirage in 1959. Seventy Mirage III CJ fighters were delivered to the Israelis between April 1962 and July 1964."

Very nice but why is BF releasing a jet that from memory was only ever used as an interceptor and long range interdictor in 1967? There are no rules in FOW for on table interceptors unless there are new rules somewhere. Ground attack in 1967 was handled by older jets ala Mystere and Vatour from memory. |

That does seem correct, and a bit odd. Perhaps the new rules will permit one to interdict Arab ground attack sorties, if you have Mirages. They'd also be useful in strafing attacks too, I imagine. |

I suspect they'll be handled by standard FOW air support rules. The FOW air support rules are rubbish and generally not very representitive of how air support worked/didn't work right up to the 1970s!
1. Horrifically accurate on targets in the open. Automatic range in. 2. No opportunity for friendly fire despite friendly fire being quite common – in fact you can't ever bomb within 16 inches of your own troops. 3. AAA is horrifically deterred by things such as houses or trees or hedges – anything that blocks line of sight once you've placed the aircraft. In essence it turns out the aircraft are flying at ground level. Range of most AA guns is pitiful too. Other systems such as BGK and FOF handle aircraft much better. |
