Hey guys looking for a good boardgame to use for a crusades (1-3rd) campaign. If there is a good miniatures campaign set out there even better. |

SPI's The Crusades. OOP but a good Richard Berg design and usually available on the secondary market. BGG: link |

Try the Perfect Captain. I think he has a Crusades boardgame specifically set up to use with the Ironbow rules. |

Other dedicated boardgame options include Onward Christian Soldiers put out by GMT and Kingdom of Heaven from MMP. Not sure how they would go as campaign engines however. |

I wrote a set of campaign rules for the First Crusade based on the old version of the Crusader Rex boardgame map which is "free".
Not sure if I can still find them, but if you are interested I can go dig. The tone of the game is based on Thomas Axbridge's book on the First Crusade. Players play the various crusader leaders who were in reality competing with each other as well as the Saracens. They can either operate alone and win all the prestige for capturing cities themselves, or co-operate but must split the prestige gained in a mutually agreed fashion, or not get any points at all. Forces are not recorded from turn to turn but generated each battle based on the current prestige of the player, as loyalty was fluid and followers moved from lord to lord. When a Saracen force is encountered, one of the non-participating players will play the Saracen side in the tabletop battle. My group never did play the rules ourselves though. |

I'd be interested to see them if you can find them (if its not too much trouble). What game rules were you going to use with them? |

I managed to find it in an old email attachment. :) I was planning to use Shattered Lances with them, but any system with a points system should work. It will be good if you have lists for Early Crusader, Seljuk, Syrian, and Fatimid armies. The Crusader Rex map is for the Third Crusade, so the names of the "countries" are wrong but the basic geography is of course the same. Let me have your email and I will send you a copy. |

Get the second edition of Crusader Rex as the map is even more gorgeous than the first one. |

There are some fan-made maps on Boardgamegeek too that are quite nice, but you have to be a geek to view them at original size. |
