1) Is the recent Napoleon miniseries I believe (or maybe Colonel Charbert)

2)Is the Soviet War and Peace

Porthos04 Dec 2014 4:50 a.m. PST

The Battle of Hollabrunn is from Wojna i Mir (War and Peace) by Sergei Bondarchuk.

Why do they always have such older actors playing Napoleon? At Eylau he was still in his thirties.

1) Le Colonel Chabert: after the Balzac novel

2) War & Peace, 1968

First clip is Napoleon miniserie from 2002.

I assume the Colonel Chabert is the one starring Gerard Depardieu, does it have many more battle sequences in it?
Ooh, just read Gwen's comment- so which is it?? Miniseries or Chabert?

Brownbear04 Dec 2014 7:08 a.m. PST

AFAIk the miniserie

KTravlos04 Dec 2014 10:54 a.m. PST

Charbet does not have any other battle scene. And the scene is the miniseries.

HussarL04 Dec 2014 11:12 a.m. PST

Gwen is correct. Napoleon miniserie from 2002. It was on cable TV. imdb.com/title/tt0253839

Of course, the history channel will never show a great miniseries like this when they can flood the airwaves with reality show garbage that has nothing to do with history at all. They even have a freaking game show now. *heavy sigh*

KTravlos04 Dec 2014 11:26 p.m. PST

That said I thought the miniseries battles were smaller than what the first clip shows. That is respectable.

And yes, the history channel is a utter disgrace.

I assume the Colonel Chabert is the one starring Gerard Depardieu, does it have many more battle sequences in it?

Pretty much the charge at the start, the rest is more a psychological study.
