As we all know, Prince Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar saved the day at Quatre Bras the day before the battle i.e. 15th June 1815. His brigade commander had just been injured so he stepped up from command of the 28th Orange-Nassau Regiment to command the brigade. What I want to know is was he wearing a shako or a cocked hat? What seems most likely? I have seen him portrayed in both items and the Perrys figure shows him in the bicorne. I know the colour of his horse (black) but not the type of headgear. What do people think?

Thanks Camcleod. I have seen this picture many times and I must admit that I favour the depiction. However, I have also seen illustrations with the Prince wearing a shako as colonel of the regiment. Hence the question. I note that even the Cent Jours site, usually a mine of information does not show the Prince as senior officer of the Orange-Nassau or as a brigade commander.

He likely had both with him. Senior (above captain) officers in both the French and British/Allied armies who were not poor and who wore the shako in formation would typically wear the bicorne (or even stranger things) otherwise.
