Did they issue new ones?
Did you have to do without?
When the war ends, are they returned?

For example, does Sweden still have Russian colors captured at Narva?

Did France have to return any captured colors after Napoleon abdicated?

As I understand it, many would have been retained, possibly returned as part of a peace treaty or later once things settled down but no guarantees on that whatsoever.

There were ones taken in the English Civil War that were hung up until the Restoration when it was considered politic to remove them before the King got back….

People paraded them to celebrate victory and kept them and sometimes return was then negotiated but not always.
Basically once captured they were lost, and people would want to remind the other side of it.

The flag of the 28th VA infantry is still held by the State of Minnesota and we are not giving back.

I certainly would not trust the Virginians to hand it back if it was loaned out. If these 'gentlemen' rebelled they are not going to keep their word to give it back.

Thanks. How about the other question?
If you lose yours does the king give you another?

SO when the French lost their eagle in 1811, what did the regiment use after thaat?

"Did France have to return any captured colors after Napoleon abdicated?"

I doubt that there were many left. According to Wikipedia – Marshal Sérurier, as governor of Les Invalides, ordered the destruction of 1,417 captured enemy flags and personally burned the sword and sash of Frederick the Great, which had been seized in 1806.

"SO when the French lost their eagle in 1811, what did the regiment use after that?"

If they had been good and returned the 2nd and 3rd battalions' eagles to the depot when instructed, they could have used one of those; although the Emperor might have disapproved of such a cavalier attitude to the loss.
