I am pleased to present the final battle of our Sudan Campaign along with some personal thoughts on what I went through putting this on. Thanks to all of my gaming "Brothers in Arms" who sent me suggestions, comments, played in the battles, etc. It was all very much appreciated. I love this hobby! Guru link |

Dan (Guru), Thanks for this year long campaign!! Also, thanks to the Dervish players and, yes, to the British ones, too. I believe we all had a great time! Huzzah! Mumbasa |

My fellow Guru Dan, of Great & Illustrious Fame Throughout the Lands of the True Believers (in colonial wargaming that is)… WELL DONE, BROTHER! Thanks for sharing your campaign with the rest of us for all these months. Wish I knew someone with your enthusiasm, dedication and focus who lived nearby so I could get them to run a campaign for me to play in! Hope you'll continue blogging when you kick off your WWII Pacific campaign, and also hope we get to game together in person next year at Colonial Barracks V. |

Thank you for all the posts I have followed all your AARs they have been highly entertaining. If you are looking to start another campaign and use the same miniatures I have a few suggestions… 1. Actually your suggestion the early Sudan with the rise of the Mahdi. Should be a real challenge with BLEEP Egyptian units, Bashi Bazouks, Allied Arab tribes etc… When your strike force is Hick's column and not Brits it will create immense challenges. 2. Dervish versus Abyssinians a neglected conflict but it would require you to paint up another army. 3. Read up on the French pacification of North Africa 1900. Substitute Brits for French, Egyptians for Algerians, Dervishes for Berbers etc… This campaign was fought on a shoe string budget using largely colonial troops. The trick is to garrison all the wadis and oasis's and fly the flag. The campaign would play out much differently with colonials under siege and relief columns getting ambushed. |

Danno (Guru Dan), Your Sudan campaign has been AWESOME!!!!! I can't tell you how many people would love to be a part of something that grand, myself included! Very few people are actually able to be involved in such a massive undertaking. To be able to play that many inter related games within a colonial historical context and not have the GM or players falter due to burn out is incredible. As a colonial gamer I especially looked forward to your posts and AAR's. The briefings, the maps, the troop movement reports, and the AAR's were so cool to read on a regular basis. I really enjoyed waking up to those regular reports. It provided inspiration to the rest of us to continue to build our Sudan armies and terrain. Your WIP reports are Awesome as well! My favorites are your gunboats. As Mad Guru said, "I wish I knew someone with your enthusiasm, dedication and focus who lived nearby so I could get them to run a campaign for me to play in!" I couldn't have stated it better…. I am however very lucky that I do happen to be a member of a local active group, SMG in south Fl, (www.soflgamers.org) and we have done some awesome campaign games as well. We do have a very motivated individual leading our group, Bill Moreno, who builds fabulous terrain boards and paints great figs with amazing speed. He runs most of our games which do at times include mini campaigns of 3-5 inter locked games. Though sadly no one has stepped up to run a colonial campaign, and we wouldn't have that much interest in the colonial period for one anyways. As we only officially meet as a whole club once a month we do have to mix up our periods and battles to accommodate a core group of about 30+ members. Cheers, JB sgtguinness.blogspot.com |

I'll really miss following this campaign and reading the always entertaining AARs. You've inspired me to try to do something similar after our house renovation is completed next year and I get my game room back. I hope you'll return to the Sudan sometime. |
