"Norway's Armed Forces Release Video of Pilot Dodging Russian MiG-31 OSLO—The Norwegian Armed Forces released a video of a Russian fighter jet flying uncomfortably close to a Norwegian F-16, highlighting potential collision risks when intercepting Russian aircraft in international airspace on behalf of NATO. The release of the video on Sunday follows a series of publications by Norwegian defense authorities regarding encounters with Russian aircraft this year, and it marks another sign of escalating concern among North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies over Moscow's increased military activity. NATO recently warned of potential risks to civil aviation when it reported a tripling of Russian aircraft interceptions this year compared with last year, with most of the increase in the Baltic region and elsewhere in Europe." The Russian was just trying to get a good look at Norway's new super-secret lutefisk-armed dual purpose air-to-air and air-to-ground missile. Though how Norway plans to get lutefisk to comply with the Geneva Conventions, I'll never know. |

Though how Norway plans to get lutefisk to comply with the Geneva Conventions, I'll never know. The same way the Scots got their bagpipes to comply with the Conventions… |

the Norway pilot should have stayed on his 6 and lit him up with tracking radar. ? |

These nato pilots are really a pain, always trying to harass Russians. Or is it the other way round? |

Certainly does make those long, boring training/patrol flights a bit more interesting, I suspect. |

Reminds me of how my ex-wife drives. Anyone see if the Ruskie was texting while in the cockpit? |

I just read about a guy who once went under a bridge on his jet fighter in 60s to reenact a famous Chkalov exploit on I-16. Even that he got hammered by CPSU line, he ended as a test pilot in MIG buro. I think MIG pilot knew exactly what he was doing…still too risky in my book. And while driving in Moscow is not that bad as in Cairo or Mumbai, it is still a shock to most foreigners ;) |

Saw it on the TV, yes the Norg got brown pantsed, as above, check on the 6 could have been a good move ;) One thing, as a nob on avionics, thought these F16s have radar etc. to cover their environment how did Russie Bear sneak up then? Cheers |

This more looks like manoeuvring by the Mig after the intercept has been completed and the F-16 is in the process of a VID. As for lighting up your radar. Why? That small moment of personal satisfaction gives the Russians another chance to see exactly what your radar can do! |

The report doesn't actually indicate the situation prior to this film. Consider a different scenario… Radar picks up the approaching bogey and vectors an F-16 to intercept, which it duly dies. However rather than simply RTB, the Russian pilot chooses to engage in a high risk manoeuvre cutting across the nose of the F-16… |
