After 22 months with a Mech Bn incountry, 2 winters and 2 tours on the DMZ,'84-'85 … I won't forget … |

I still shiver when remembering the Chorwon Valley in Feb, 84. We don't know how cold it got. The thermometers only went to 40 below. |

Thanks to both of you for serving. I can't imagine how cold Korea must get. I know I have hiked in single degree temps with winds making it feel like -15 degrees, and I was moving and active. |

Now imagine it being that cold while a bunch of angry Chinese guys are throwing grenades at you and you're eating rations that are WW2 vintage :) |

Weasel, we were in the field. Imagine so cold, when you hit a track end connector with a hammer, the hammer shatters. Pull the trigger on a machine gun and the bolt doesn't move because the "severe cold weather" lubricants froze. We built fires under the tanks to keep the diesel fuel from jelling. Several families were found frozen to death inside their homes. There was a reason far more of those Chinese died from exposure than combat. |

Yeah, I remember the Chorwon in Feb. 84. Yes, Cold Steel and I were in the ROK at the same time. We didn't know each other. He was a Tanker and me a Mech Grunt[1-31 at Cp. Howze]. But I'm sure our units operated together on a few occasions. It was so cold we'd have to put our parkas over our canteens on our LCE, or they'd freeze. Wind chill would drop temps to -30 or -40 below, as Cold Steel mentioned. You have not "lived" until you experienced doing bodily functions in the field at those temps !!!! Sunk a jeep crossing a small river in the winter. I hate cold water to this day. The XO did it too, so I don't feel so bad. If an APC's heater was broken, it was deadlined. The M113s/M577s would turn into an ice box inside. With all that metal absorbing the cold. Today, if the pool at the Y is not at least 85 degrees … I just go to the hot tube or sauna ! |

I read the blog. It's a nice job. Regarding your most recent post, couldn't you just change the ground scale of "Front Lines: Korea 1950-53" to suit your tastes? If you simply changed the ground scale to 1" = 25m, but keep the "counter" sizes the same, a Marine counter would have a range of 10", while a Chinese counter would have a range of 8". Movement would double to 2". |

Drummer – yes, I could…I am also thinking about changing the ground and base scale for Command Decision (the first version). Frontlines and Mein Panzer both give a more nationalistic feel based on weapon performance…cobbling together all three isn't out of the realm of possibilities. I still have Micro Melee on order which was recommended. |
