Skirmish 40K is a method for playing skirmish games while still being compatible with regular Warhammer 40K.

Fan versions of GW's old official "Kill Team" rules abound on the net.

I'd suggest Stargrunt 2.

Thanks Tango. I agree there are lots of options for playing 40K skirmish, but why not just play 500 point games? :)
Stargrunt is not going to give the same pulp feel that 40K has going for it, although it is indeed one of the greats.
I'd forward 1st edition Warzone as my favorite pulp sci-fi skirmish game.
In The Emperor's Name is my other preferred choice.
