I am curious, I have seen some great looking canopies and windows on various websites. Some are orange, some are blue.

How do you paint your canopies? The reason I ask, I will be painting up some soon and was curious on your techniques. Thanks in advance,

Mike

I paint them black first, then a mix of blue and black, then blue then put some lighter blue high lights on them then put small streaks of white.

For vehicles, I paint them with blue oil paint then put a streak of white oil paint slashed across the window, to represent light glinting on the glass, and use a brush to blend that into the blue.

Like Chortle, blue with white highlights.

For the high-reflec look sometimes seen on Battletech pieces, use a metallic bronze highlighted with metallic gold.

I paint mine bright silver (Sterling from Army Painter or Mithril from GW).

Then I shade the vehicles in dips (Future plus ink or Army painter) which adds a shade level to the windows.

Then I matt varnish (usually Testors Dullcoat) the whole vehicle.

Then I pick out areas I need highlighted as glass with various Tamiya acrylic lacquers.

I usually use blue on the windows, red for vision slits and light clusters to the rear, yellow for other lights etc.

This is the same think done on helmet visors and the sight on the front of a rifle:

It's not as good as 'proper' paining of windows, I accept that. But it is very fast.

Black base, then add some coloured highlights, finishing with white. Basically, paint them like eldar gems: link

@John Treadaway: using a metallic base is a great idea, I will have to try it out.

For 15mm and 6mm vehicles I paint them light blue if the vehicle is dark and sometimes dark blue if the vehicle is a lighter color.

You could try this Spiffing idea…

These were done with a light blue/dark blue gradient and then white washes. Gloss varnish.
