I want to break out my Eureka MOPP suit Cold War figures. Looking for a fun set of small skirmish rules. More towards the gaming end of the spectrum versus simulation – maybe even beer and pretzel. I want to have fun game in an evening. Suggestions? I m going to be ducking it out in a German town or city.

I saw a few on Wargame Vault but I am not sure what to go with

Force on Force appears intimidating to learn, but is actually pretty easy to oick up and offers a fun game.

The Battlefield is also excellent, but its built as a tabletop FPS, so you may consider some parts a bit strange. That's on Wargames Vault afaik.

My "No End in Sight" rules should handle you nicely and you can power through a reinforced platoon level game in a short evening.

The link above is an AAR from my good friend Jack. There's more over in the battle reports forum.

It's set up to be pretty solo friendly too.

Weasel, how does it do for built areas?

The game revolves around the risk involved in rushing across an open space while under fire, so moving from corner to corner or trying to get across a street works really well.

Because of how the game mechanics works, its intended for a more clustered table. The wide open 40K style tables will get you shot to pieces.

I will note though that in a dense, city sort of table, the game will feel a lot more like a skirmish game, because you may have 2 or 3 men in contact at any given time due to the limited fields of fire. It's always hard to bring an entire squad to bear on an enemy position.

Mechanically, there's a small section on handling buildings and moving around in them. Not super detailed but it's there.
