Last Saturday, I had the whole family with a few other gaming buddies come out and played in a massive Pirate game in celebration of my birthday. Each team had a faction with multiple objectives, which had a different payout in doubloons. Each team started out with a set amount of gold and can be used to barter, re-roll a bad die roll, etc. Player with the most coin at the end, won the game. My boys played the infamous Spanish Pirates, the "Padilla Brothers", Eric played the Captain of the British ship with crew, John was the Captain of the Governors Guard force and his son Mat, played the unsettled towns folk – a pivotal element in the game. Myself, well I played the game changer when I wheeled in the cursed ship called the "Black Maria", later in the game. Enjoy the show:

Awesome…what rules did you use?

Murphy,
I used a mix of rules; "Pirates" from Craig Martell (The Guantlet) for the land battles and "Limey's and Slimey's" for the ship-to-ship action. I didn't really plan on a ship-to-ship action, so I threw that in on a whim. It worked ok, but with compatability issues. I'm now looking at Old Glory's, "Buccaneers, Broadsword and Blunderbuss (BBB)". I like their Quality Dice roll mechanism, plus it has both rules needed, and all the cool stuff needed in a "Pirate" like game.
