All

For some reason i'm a bit de-motivated today.

Please help to boost my morale by sharing some photos of your latest units or work in progress.

Tell me about your latest purchases – what armies or units are you building at the moment?!

Thanks in advance

J

I must cast 15(18)mm Borodino 1812 generals..

Inkbiz27 Nov 2014 8:35 a.m. PST

Hang in there Ferg! All too familiar with that feeling.

I'll have to post some pics but currently working on sculpting some 1:200 scale Austrian Grenadiers, trying to keep everything to scale, which makes me want to pull my hair out, but it'll be worth the effort in the end I hope.

Sometimes you just need to step back, take a breath, clear your head, and watch a totally inane movie or read some silly novella totally unrelated to the hobby just to give your brain something else to enjoy for a bit.

Either way, enjoy!

Painting 6mm Austrian Uhlans and generals today. Those are the only types missing from my Austrian Army, although I do have some extra Cuirassiers, Dragoons and Grenzers to paint when I decide to bulk it out a bit.

Finished mounting 2 British brigades and 2 Spanish divisions to take on my French Peninsula Corps. Now to flock the bases….ugh.

Well I was looking at my lead mountain and I thought "look at all that AWI stuff -not interested in that any more and I'll never paint them -why don't I put them on Ebay?".

That night I woke up about three am with the answer -I'll put them all on 12cm bases and use them with an AWI DBA variant.
I got up especially early the next day and started trying this out on 3mm ply bases -looked great
Next thing I know I'd ordered Rebellion and Land of the Free and I'd done an intense survey of the Perry Miniatures site.
I'm now going for a more traditional 60mm bases and very excited about the whole project.
You just never know when the hour will come!!

I'm getting ready for a big Russians vs French game on Sunday – first game for me since January!

stoneman181027 Nov 2014 10:27 a.m. PST

Just finished painting AB 18mm General D'Hautpol, General Nansouty, Marshal Davout, and a General of Division. Starting basing today – the first two on individual bases the last two based together. The leopard saddle of D'Hautpol was a fun challenge. I will probably post a few pics next week.

Try to concentrate on your blessings. I too become somewhat downcast this time of year.Too many memories. As Inkbiz says – a funny movie can help a lot (laughter the best medicine). Take care. . .

Guys

Great to see and hear about everyone's projects. I'm still on my grand old Waterloo project for June next year…

What will 2016 hold? Who knows!!

See all these Austrians? I've been away on holiday, causing some delays, but finished painting them all last night and started sticking them on bases. Looking forward to getting home from work later today to continue. Will have completion pics at long last this weekend – wahoo!

And two days ago I bought two boxes of Austrian Grenadiers in the Victrix sale which ends on the 30th:

And yesterday I bought this discounted village from Tabletop Workshop which should work great for Southern German locale in early 19th C. link

Plan big, go strong! :)

I am working on a game / campaign based on "what if" the Hannoverians fought it out in 1803. I am also painting 1811-12 Spanish patriots vs French, Afrancesados, Germans, Italians, and one lone Neapolitan reg't.

I have few spare moments due to becoming a father recently…but I am managing to progress the Saxon corps I'm trying to build.

Lieb Grenadier Guard – still a work in progress.

I am trying to be good and not make any new purchases until I get through the current pile of lead (now down to 100 or so figures). Well maybe just a little early Christmas present for myself soon !

von Winterfeldt30 Nov 2014 12:59 a.m. PST

@mcorbett

very nice units – excellent Saxon army – inspirational.

Out of interest, recent research revealed that for the 1813 campaign, the Saxon Leib Grenadier Garde – did wear the bearskin caps.
Their shako was given to the newly raised Polish Guard of the Imperial guard.

Gratian30 Nov 2014 5:06 a.m. PST

Thank you for your supportive comments. Interesting about the bearskins, I didn't know that.

I've seen conflicting depictions of the shako cords and plume – some show them as red, others white. Most pictures I've found showed them as white, however, there seems to be reenactment group and on their website they're red so I might go with that.

See link for their website.

I would opt for white ones as well.

In case you like to persue this topic, there are some excellent contemporary plates on Markus Stein's webseite at

Cheers again, will stick with white then. I will post the full corps once completed.

1968billsfan01 Dec 2014 12:36 p.m. PST

I just spray painted 150 austrian line troops with white primer and now just have to base and flock the bases to finish the brigade. I have some ACW confederate flags left over from another project and will use one of them for the standard.
