Paul has me hooked on calling 1/72 plastics "bods." I've gone back to my origins with 1/72 figures and am in the process of selling off most of my 15mm lead pile and reducing my 28mm stuff. I want to use all 1/72 for my fantasy campaign.

However Mantics Basileans are simply terrific. I love this model here as well as the Sisters Panther cav.

One of the nice things about 1/72 plastics are the conversions. I'm wanting suggestions on how to take existing 1/72 models available online and convert some to make the model above.

Further inspiration.

Thought about these lions from the Jungle Adventures set though I am unsure of their size as mounts.

Look for a lion scaled to 28mm. The Jungle adventure animals will likely be too small if they are "normal" sized animals.

I agree. I'd look for some plastic toy lions because you want them impressive. Try toobs or something like that.

Not to hijack, but I'm using a Papo boar for my 1/72 Arthurian fantasy games. I just need to find something between this big pig and the normal warriors to flesh out a force. Something like Britains used to produce.

I know there's probably a lot here you don't want, but you might look for something like this

Hi – good call going 1/72 for fantasy – I did too!

I have the airfix lions, and they're small even compared to other 1/72 scale lions, such as those in the Orion gladiators set.
The toob animals are ok, but the detail's a bit soft and the poses limited, so they're ok but not a perfect match-up for the accurate proportions of 1/72.

I'd also reccomend 28mm scale lions, as they give the 'heroic' scale of the lions you want as shown in your 1st post. There's a nice selection of 28mm animals at Ral Partha Europe, along with other animals that can be used well with 1/72 scale, as they're really 'true' 25mm – just a tad larger than 1/72, and look nicely epic while possessing the same realistic anatomy of 1/72:

These animals pictured below, however, are precicely 1/72 scale – I've got several sets for beast packs for my 1/72 barbarian and orc forces:

There's also this larger lion also from RPE:

all from here: ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop

and North Star has a nice selection of 28mm animals, too: link

Try the Egyptian booster brick for Arcane Legions. Miniature market still has sets for $12. USD You'll get a bunch of stuff, including four lion riders.

(Everything in the above shot is a few mm shorter than shown, by the way.)

The Bag o Zombie Animals from Twilight Creations will get you a ton of usable lions and tigers for cheap once it's available, or just by the Zombie Zoo board game if you're impatient. Fill in the zombie details with wood glue or putty and you're set. link

(The tan figures are Jungle Adventures figures, which you can see are too tiny for your purposes).
