Over the past five years the Civil War Trust has been acquiring and restoring land on a battlefield long lost to development. Now the Civil War Trust is attempting to buy 3 acres at the HEART of the Franklin Battlefield. With this purchase, a proper battlefield park will be established and the memory of thousands of fallen soldiers will be honored. THE CWT has an opportunity to match every dollar they receive with $14 USD in matching grants!

30 November 2014 is the 150th anniversary of this tragic and pivotal battle.

In an attempt to assist with this preservation effort, ACW Gamer: The Ezine will be donating 10% of all sales on 30 November 2014 to the Civil War Trust. This will also include all subscription renewals and extensions.

The last time I was there the battlefield was covered with a bunch of strip malls / shopping areas. How are the people going to get past those things?

Good news – lost a GGGrandfather in that battle – he was with an Alabama Unit CSA – never found his grave.

49mountain, they have been buying the strip mall and shops and demolishing them. There is quite a difference from my first visit 25 years ago. With these 3 acres, there will be a proper park.

Based on the response I am getting. I am extending the period from just the 30th of November to now through the 30th of November. More help for the Civil War Trust!

I visited Franklin in 1997 …a Civil War Park at such an important and pivotal battle is long overdue! Though I have to say I found that the short tour round the Carter House hit home more than some battlefields I visited that year?

Good Old Rebel,

I have to agree. I have toured the Carter House twice. Last May when I toured it, I left with a profound sense of sadness the likes of which I hadn't felt since I saw the mass graves of glider pilots at the cemetery in Arnhem as a boy. Our guide did more than her part to make the place 'real.'

I am also reading "Die Like Men" which also puts the whole campaign in a new light.

49 Mountain, they are trying down the Domino's today!

I was just there in July, and the Domino's was still operating. It was almost dusk, and everything else was closed. Still a powerful thing to stand in the little Cleburne memorial, and walk around the Carter House. I can't wait to go back when its a proper park.

I don't care how, but when it becomes a park i'm going to get there somehow!!

From an Australian reader:

"I am very happy to support you and assist in your donation to preserve Franklin. Naturally I have an interest in the ACW, as does my wife and both understand that without fund raisers like yours and organisations like the Civil War Trust, to whom we also donate, lands such as this will disappear.

Should I ever be in the position to visit your great land, I can assure you that my family would much rather visit a place of historical significance than a branch of Wal-Mart or their like. We therefore we feel that it is also up to us and not just residents of the US to assist in preserving these lands."

Hurray for tearing down the malls!! I did visit the Carter house when I was there and found it interesting. I walked along what was left of the earthworks, too. The sooner the park happens the better.
