Hey all---I painted up some old school Jack Scruby fantasy figures for Historifigs, the current producer of these figures. Some are 25mm scale; others are bigger, and of course the monsters are bigger still. These were fun to paint. Thanks to Mike Taber at historifigs for giving me the opportunity to paint them.

How do these old school 25s compare height wise to 1/72 plastics?

Grignotage24 Nov 2014 10:23 a.m. PST

The Dwarves, orcs, hobbit, and goblins would scale well---as would the troll and tree-man, since they're kinda scale neutral.

The group of 4---the wizard, clerics, and warrior--are close to 40mm scale. One of the orcs is also much taller than the other two.

Anything Scruby in 25mm should work fine with 1/72 scale figures.

What is the cost of an unpainted figure?

Grignotage24 Nov 2014 11:43 a.m. PST

I believe these are in the $2 USD-4 range. Maybe a bit more for the treeman and troll.

Looks like $.75 USD to $3 USD per figure

Ah Scruby miniatures, so ugly they are cute.

Think about it: some day, Scruby miniatures might be gone for good, like Hinton Hunt, Yucca, Peter Laing, Der Kreigspielers/Heritage/Empire, Minifigs 25mm S Range and 15mm Second Edition, etc., plus others that I can't think of at the moment.

Liking Scruby figures and the ranges I mentioned is a matter of taste. So some folks might have a laugh at my comments, and I can live with that. Personally, I'm grateful that Scruby figures are still available: I'm a fan of Jack's eighteenth century n-gauge figures.

If memory serves correct, Jack Scruby was among the first to produce such figures for gamers – ever. They deserve their due accordingly.

True. Tis a fascinating glimpse into history, and how far the hobby has come.

Didn't he do a lot of the sculpting himself? Some of his later ranges were not half bad.

Minifigs 25mm S Range is still available.
