I just finished the second force for my 3mm sci-fi games, the Solar Bloc.
They will be fighting the CoreSystemsAlliance or CSA for control of the colonies and their resources.

There are a few more shots on the blog:

Great work! I've been planning similar use of helis without rotors. I am hoping I can find seed beads small enough to mount up top as lift modules.

Thanks cloudcaptain, as for tiny beads, I'd check out craft beads on ebay, there are tons of different sizes that might fit the bill, and they are usually dirt cheap too!

@legion 4; Thank you!

That's great stuff there, Dementation! I paerticularly like how you based against the painting scheme. It really brings the models out and the color is quite rich! What colors did you use?

One thing, though: if those are platoon-sized stands, based on a Soviet bloc model, then what you've got there is basically a battalion. 6 line platoons is far too big for one company. But given that Soviet-style companies are smaller than western-style companies (and less flexible), you could say that 2 stands are one company. That means you have three infantry and four tank companies there.

@dave simpson: Thanks! I used AP army green and vallejo german grey for the models, and some dark blue for the canopies.
The bases are just thinned down vallejo parasite brown, painted in a few layers so each base will look a little different from another.

Thank you for the pointer on the size of the force, since I'm using them for sci-fi I didn't really research soviet OOB but rather arbitrarily settled for a few more stands per company than the opposition.

Well, some purists state that every base should represent a platoon.

For me, bases represent 3-5 vehicles, depending on other factors (such as small uinit training and flexibility).

So I use 4-5 vehicle NATO-style platoons for highly trained and flexible forces. For Warsaw pact-syle forces, I use five vehicle half-companies. Their companies are generally 10 vehicles in size (with three vehicle platoons).

A 14 vehicle U.S company will thus have three stands, versus a two stand Soviet company.
