If you like massive explosions, cast of thousands, high production values, and every other man carrying a banner you'll love this. It is 34 one hour episodes. Unfortunately it is Chinese as are the subtitles. Anyone with a moderate understanding of the Taiping rebellion could follow the story. I cannot say how accurate it is. I'm sure much of the palace intrigue at both the Imperial and Taiping court is long on drama but short on history. The producers have made the Taipings more uniform than they were in actuality. I believe only those high ranking officials and their retainers had anything really resembling a uniform appearance. Also there is too much reliance on melee weapons. There are plenty of battles, assaults of walled cities and naval engagements to make it interesting. I'm curious to see if the even mention the Ever Victorious Army.

It is my understanding that, as historical movies go, they are best served if made buy the country where the depicted event took place.
Except perhaps for Hollywood which is a specialist in making SF of every historical movie wherever and whenever it took place.
