The attack on the town of Gandimullah Sahibdad took place as one of the opening moves by the British at the Battle of Kandahar (Baba Wali). It was a success in history but not so tonight in my basement. As the British I made some tactical errors. The main one, not allowing my artillery to do sufficient damage before advancing, got the Gordons bogged down and eventually the whole attack was called off. The other error I made was splittng the Ghoorkas into two units as well as the 24th Punjabis supporting them. The Ghoorkas were surprised by a Ghazi unit and driven backward into their supports (the 24th Punjabi)who I had also split in two. Their fire power was not sufficient to stop the Ghazis as they overran both of these units and eventually the 23rd Pioneers who were supporting the artillery. It was only the steadfastness of the artillery that finally drove them away. The day was quickly lost and the Afghan numbers seemed to be increasing and mine dwindling. I called off the attack. Not the way it should have gone at all. Will have a "do over" on this one.

Wow very nice! What rules? |

Thanks. We used Colonial Adventures by Two Hour Wargames. They are simple, using d6 dice and reaction tables. Games can easily be completed in a 2 to 3 hour time frame, depending on number of bathroom breaks. |

I really like your photos but cannot really see whats happening as they are too small. Are they posted somewhere where we can see them larger? |

D A THB – I don't have them posted anywhere else. The computer I have allows me to increase the size of what I am viewing but if you don't have that I could email you the pictures. They may be larger that way. |

Fun looking game. I love your terrain--it seems like a nice balance between looks and playability. Thanks for sharing! |

Great looking game This weekend I was commanding Italian Askaris in an Adowa re-do; not a comfortable place to be! |

Daryl Haselton- I got lazy on the terrain. Usually I try and make it myself but I used some 54mm Paragon Scenics from their Apache Pass series for the hills and a cigar box mat. The game was a small table (about 4ft 6in by 6 ft) and the cigar box mat fit just about right.I totally mishandled the British troops in this one plus the dice were completely against me. |

Hmm…I didn't think you could post photos directly to TMP. Rather, you had have a blog/url to input them? |

Hi I am now viewing the pictures on my iPhone which looks a lot better than my iMac. Nice tip about the terrain which I might look into. Thanks |

Yes, Rhingyll, that's a very helpful lead regarding terrain. The 54mm pieces look great with 28's. Hmmmm… |

Awesome looking game, Bob! The 54mm rocky hills look great with your 28mm troops! I wish you luck on your second attempt to take the town and break through to Ayub Khan's camp on the bank of the Arghandab River! |
