OK, I bought several additional packs of Vikings from The Foundry, and am busy painting them. Painting the flesh on all of them, I noticed that one chap has only one shoe--like Jason in the Greek myth! So I wondered, "What's with this?" Anybody have any ideas why they would have sculpted a figure with a shoe on his left foot, but his right foot bare? I think poverty can be discounted: the figure wears mail and a helmet. Is there some practical thing that eludes me? Is this part of some Viking story I've missed or don't remember? Grelber |

You've probably just won some improbably ridiculous prize from Foundry as you're the only one to notice it. Clever bahstahds… |

Odins smarter brother…was given an option for the price for all the knowledge in the world and gave up his right shoe feeling his eye was to tall a price? |

…To get a better grip on the sand when jumping from the longship? |

Possibly a Welsh Viking?, they had a propensity for going about singly shod. |

Did you buy the figures second hand? When I do most are missing something, swords, spears and shields…. never any shoes though. |

Yeah, Welsh. I haven't read anywhere that sources show one shoe on, one shoe off, Vikings. I think that the missing shoe on the Welsh guys is meant to be a "racial" slur, as the rest of the figures as drawn are comical "doofus" dudes for sure…. |

Those above mine are all entertaining responses, btw…. |

Possibly a follower of Brian. Perhaps get all your Vikings to remove one shoe? I know the figure having slowly purchased almost all Viking variants that Foundry do. I recall painting his foot brown and it not looking right, might go back and paint it flesh….still won't look right but…. |

Not a Welsh Viking, a Welsh Rugby player eating his own shoe after yet again losing to the mighty All Blacks! |

Could be a berserker if he stood on tack with the wrong foot |

Most of the Viking berserkers Foundry sells are bare chested; a few are totally nude, something I tend to doubt happened, and some wear bear pelts. This guy, however, has a coat of mail on, so I don't think he is intended to be a berserker. I think he comes from their pack VIK 041, Viking Armoured Axemen and is the Torkil Oddasen figure link It looks like Foundry's painter just painted the foot shoe color. Grelber |

"Oddason" might be a joke name, "odd" being the number of his footwear. |
