Well, I have been talking about these for long enough and I nearly have as many Gendarmes d'Elite as cuirassiers. If Gringo produce their promised figures, more work to do! Photography is not my strong point as you'll see. As always, the blue has come out far too vivid under the spotlights. I reality is almost black before high lighting. Real Waterloo mud on the bases of course and, this time I thought I'd try poppies. (Punched out of two paper poppies left over from 11th November!) Two eagles for a unit that hardly rated one……..I had thought to give the helmeted chap a musket or a pistol, but, in the end…………………… imageshack.com/a/iNuz/1 here are a few samples, more on the link above obviously.

Hello, hello, hello. Aren't they pretty. |

Very nice! I like the basing – and the use of round bases, escaping the tyranny of the square! I have been thinking of using round bases – they look nicer even if maybe a little less practical. What diameter bases do you use? |

They just happen to be 73mm (I had no idea, but just measured one!) They are clear plastic lens covers off an operating microscope! Usually discarded when used, but my OR staff know I use them for something……..no idea what……… |

very nice brush work, the colours come nicely I have a question about the trumpeter – from what source do you have that one in the helmet? Also I was under the impression that the red coat wasn't worn in 1815 – but that a blue coats with blue collar anf red lapels were worn in this campaign as well as a hat for headdress?? |

those are ridiculously pretty! nicely done. |

von W you are absolutely right of course. The redcoat is from several years earlier, but I had two trumpeters of course and it looks good in red! I wanted some variety, but two eagles is really taking a liberty! I would love to have had every one of these in the longer coat with lapels, but they come in the simpler surtout…so this they stayed. I do have one Gendarme converted from a plastic dragoon with the red lapels. For the helmeted trumpeter I went for the Mt St Jean site representation. Certainly there are more sources showing the bicorne than the Royalist helmet….and the pale blue is more Imperial Guard than Royal Household. By 1830 he was wearing a dark blue coat, Bardin style, with red lapels and white lace. I also agonised over his shabraque. I have seen it in pale blue, crimson and same as the rest. I went for the last for both of them. To all of you thanks for your feedback. |

Gorgeous Gendarmes! The "Immortals" have been a long, long time coming, but they were worth the wait! Clever use of the Operating Microscope lens caps. No OR time for me, but I've used tongue blades to mount my figures in progress during painting for decades. |

Very nice -love the basing -I considered round for my FPW cavalry -good for ragged charging lines. In fact thinking about it you could do some good swirling cavalry melees with rounds or have them breaking around a square in a much more pleasing manner. You've got me thinking now!!! |

Wooden tongue blades……that takes me back. Early 70's all my Airfix plastic figures were lined up on them. I still have a few Stadden figures that survived the cull…and the wood is now over 40 years old but intact! Yeah, the round bases appeal to me as so versatile….line, column, whatever. I photography the gaps are easier filled in and concealed too. |

These look great , I'm just about to paint some of these in 6mm I will use your pictures for reference. Richard |
deadhead | 24 Nov 2014 10:07 a.m. PST |
I would love to see these in 6mm. If they are even remotely up to your previous standards, should be hard to tell which group is 28mm and which 6mm….thine or mine. If I was you I would use the red lapels look though. I did this chap a few years ago as part of the grenadiers a cheval. converted from a plastic Perry Dragoon (as is the officer in the surtout). Colours are not quite as accurate as in my latest efforts. Should not be tassle on the bearskin front either, musket is wrong way up, lace on shabraque is single……..early days in my work!

Cheers Liam I will see how close I can get, will have to give a 28mm figure a go at some point although I expect it will take me months just to paint one ! Thanks for the advise aswell it's always appreciated Richard |
