I am thinking of creating a Saga faction for classical India. I would like to do Sikhs, but they did not really emerge as a viable force until much later than the era portrayed by Saga, so I am thinking of using Rajputs and/or Maratha Confederacy.

The main issue is finding 28mm figures that would represent a Rajput/Maratha warlord, hearthguard, and warriors. I think some of the figures by Indus Miniatures would work, but the selection is a bit limited right now. Any other suggestions or are they the best ones available?

Thanks.

Eureka has some great-looking mounted Rajputs: link

What Battle Board will you be using?

I am still debating on which battleboard would work best or to just create my own. Studio Tomahawk kindly provides a blank battleboard template.

You could grab some figures from Wargames foundry and also the various Arab ranges. You could use Timurids as well?

@ashokmarine…. would those be compatible with your stuff? I like the figures you have and most would work well for a warlord and hearthguard. So, want to stick to a similar scale.

@Cyrus: I actually managed to work on the board. Essentially, I am going to use the Norman battleboard with some modifications. The Rajputs, in my view, tended to fight in a rather similar aproach to Norman knights. Cavalry supported by archers and infantry. I am also, for the iconic aspect, going to incorporate the possibility for the warlord to be mounted on an elephant.

Eureka fit in perfect I think. Foundry look fine but in a separate unit. Perry mAtch up well.

Very nice. I don't think anyone would have a problem with the Battle Board or rules.

Am thinking possibly some of the TAG Ottomans?

Those Eureka dudes are very striking.

Hmmmm… Methinks Saga would also work well for Precolumbian warfare between the various city states of Central America, especially the Maya…. Now, where did I put my copy of Saga?evil grin

@ Cyrus:I tried to primarily used the Normans battleboard with some modifications to give it flavor and use of the elephant. It's all theorycraft for now, but once I get my shipment of figures from Eureka and Ashok, I hope to get some games in with them.

Leland, I think someone has made an Aztec battleboard.

That Aztec BB is by Dale Hurtt and myself. We have a Tlaxcaltec and an Inca BB too. With Crescent and Cross just out, the Conquistadors are undergoing a major re-write. Once it is done, they'll be put up for viewing.

The Maya would be next. Do you want Post-Collapse Maya that met the Conquistadors, or Classical Maya who basically just fought amongst themselves?
