I've finished my first two elements of my Victrix Athenians
I'm enjoying building and painting the Victrix figures. Simple to build and easy to paint! What else could you want.
So thanks for looking Cheers Russ |

Very nice! They put my own efforts to shame. |

Very nice brush work and nice looking bases! |

Thanks punkrabbitt, its the freedom of using colours as much as anything that brings them to life. After painting WW2 stuff its nice to be able to use colours just because they look good and being able to give an individual look to the figures but still trying to make them a cohesive look to them. It seems to have worked out pretty well. They photograph pretty nicely as well, and I'm no expert at that, no by a long way! Thanks again Cheers Russ |

Thanks oldbob, I've really branched out era wise in these last few months! Spartans, Ancient indians, and Athenians I'm really sure whats next! |

Yes nice, based for what rules bracken? Cheers happy painting |

Thanks LEGION 1950, Its just GW gold paint, washed with agrax earthshade drybrushed with GW gold and then highlighted with valejo shiney gold. I can't remember the extact names but its pretty easy. I've tried a bronze colour but it just didn't look right. Zargon thank you also, I'm basing them for DBA. I've increased the frontage to 80mm otherwise the bases weren't big enough for 4 figures to stand side by side. As long as all the bases are the same frontages it shouldn't cause a problem. Thanks again for all the feedback guys Cheers for now Russ |

Lovely! I happen to think these are some of the best plastics yet produced |
bracken | 23 Nov 2014 7:25 a.m. PST |
Thanks Emperorbaz, I think plastics have come such a long way in relatively short space of time. I'm a true fan of most of them, yes you still come across some howlers! Then again metal doesn't always mean better detail and better figures. The Spartans are nice but I think the Athenians are better still, so long live the plastic revolution. So keep looking there is more to come Cheers Russ |

Lovely work, and the comment about colours is right. I know a WWII treadhead who saw some of my Greeks and thought exactly the same thing… |
bracken | 24 Nov 2014 11:21 a.m. PST |
Thanks Caliban, its certainly being fun painting them, even building them hasn't being a hardship like some of the other plastics I've built! but even saying that I still havnt being put off by some of the more fiddly sets out there. So onwards with way to many projects as always Cheers for now Russ |

They look really great. I love the guy holding his shield. |
bracken | 26 Nov 2014 2:35 p.m. PST |
Thanks Das Sheep I made the mistake of glueing his shield in place before I based him. It would of being much easier to get the base done first then glue his shield in place. Getting behind his shield was a real SoB but hey we all live and learn. Trouble sometimes I'm a bit slow at the learning bit! |
Mithridates | 27 Nov 2014 12:38 p.m. PST |
I do like those Victrix hoplites. I do admire someone who does the eyes as well, beyond me now I am afraid! Garry |
bracken | 27 Nov 2014 2:34 p.m. PST |
Thanks Mithridates, it took me along time to get eyes looking right, and even now I still mess up from time to time. Sometimes its the second or third attempt before I'm happy with them, I cant paint eyes on Perry miniatures yet but I do keep trying. They seem to small for me to cope with! I'm building up the next 8 Athenians so hopefully I should be slapping some paint on this weekend. So keep looking and i will keep posting |

What rules set do you intend to use them for? |
bracken | 27 Nov 2014 7:23 p.m. PST |
Rules are DBA, base fronts are 80mm instead of 60mm I just couldn't cram them on a 60mm. It should work I can't see it being a problem as long as all bases have the same frontage, well thats the theory. |
