The armies of the American Civil War used a variety of canvas tents. From the tiny, 2-man Shelter or "Dog" tent, to the Wedge or A-Frame Tent, to the Wall Tent and the Conical Sibley Tent. The typical camp of an army would be a sea of white canvas. With these PaperTerrain kits you can easily and economically add tents to your armies. The 10/12mm kit includes 12 Wall Tents (8 of the standard size, and 4 of the larger Hospital Tents), 7 Sibley Tents, 32 A-Frame Tents, and 325 Dog Tents. The 15mm kit includes 7 Wall Tents (4 of the standard size, and 3 of the larger Hospital Tents), 4 Sibley Tents, 18 A-Frame Tents, and 190 Dog Tents. The 20mm kit includes 4 Wall Tents (2 of the standard size, and 2 of the larger Hospital Tents), 2 Sibley Tents, 12 A-Frame Tents, and 120 Dog Tents. The 25/28mm kit includes 6 Wall Tents (4 of the standard size, and 2 of the larger Hospital Tents), 2 Sibley Tents, 8 A-Frame Tents, and 72 Dog Tents. The cost of each kit is $20.00 USD.

Nice idea! Does anyone have any photos of their snake rail fences in use?

Just keep in mind that the first issues of shelter tents didn't begin until April of 1862 within the AoP, and proceeded west from there.

Prior to that the men used the common tent (wedge tent) which was to sleep 5 men. Officers had wall tents and some regiments used Sibley tents for all the enlisted men.

However, those common tents, Sibleys and wall tents were carried in the baggage trains, and if they didn't get up in time, the men would be forced to use their rubber ground cloths and wool blankets.

Thomas Hyde talks about sitting up one night on a couple of knapsacks with his back against a tree, and using his rubber blanket to keep off most of the rain.

Sgt Rice Bull of the 123rd NY talks at some length about the shelter tents. He said that they'd use them if there was some dampness in the air, but if it was any sort of serious rain, that they were useless to keep it out, the material being so thin. Many times, if the weather was at all reasonable, they'd simply use the shelter half as an extra blanket on top, putting their rubber blanket on the ground, and then their wool blanket and shelter half for rolling up in.

I think that these paper tents are absolutely bully and will have to see about acquiring some for my Billy Bones army.

That reminds me of my sleeping arrangements most of the time while in the divisional armored cavalry squadron. I'd have my air mattress and sleeping bag on a shelter half so that I could fold part of the shelter half up on top to keep the moisture off.

I am looking for tents for war of 1812. Would any of these work?

The wedge, or common tents would be fine for that era.

Nicely done as always.
