For many years I have been using Humbrol HT Marker Red for all of my Napoleonic British tunics. I can't recall when or where I got all of these little tins but, whatever, I've just finished my last tin.

I now find that this range has long since been discontinued although several online sources state that this colour has been retained as Humbol 174. See link for example.

However, Humbrol 174 is Satin (gloss) so hardly a suitable replacement. I just wondered if anyone knew which MATT humbrol colour might be the best match? I've tried Vallejo but recently several bottles have mysteriously come out gloss and I paint such large batches that I don't want to risk that again.

Here's the kind of red I'm looking for.

Many thanks for any Humbrol number suggestions.

The two reds are now M60 scarlet and M153 insignia red. Insignia red = marker red? It's certainly darker than scarlet so you might try a tin of that.

I believe these are basically 153 plus highlight

Matt 60 Scarlet looks the closest, but Humbrol don't do many matt reds. 153 Insignia Red is a bit darker.

I think scarlet might be too bright – although these are highlighted it is this colour.

Thanks very much chaps – there's this Humbrol Matt red auction
but as Richard says, it looks darker.

Seems a pity that they have reduced their range to such an extent – only two shades of red! There used to be at least 8 link

I use Humbrol enamel 60 (Matt Scarlet) for officers and Sgts and 153 (matt insignia red) for ORs.

LH – that is a grewat link to teh 8 shades, but I wonder how "exact" a match those various colours are, or whether that was a "guesstimate"?

Has anybody done an exact match test on a colour swatch?
