What?

You say no aircraft carrier is unsinkable?

Britain had one in WWII.

So, tell that to the Chinese, who are building what will essentially be an unsinkable aircraft carrier in the Spratley Islands, to further their claims in the region, and to project power, in the South China Sea.

"Asked about the report at a defense forum in Beijing on Saturday, Jin Zhirui, a colonel with the Chinese air force command, declined to confirm it but said China needed to build facilities in the South China Sea for strategic reasons.

"We need to go out, to make our contribution to regional and global peace," Jin said. "We need support like this, including radar and intelligence."

Luckily, they are building it to help promote "….global peace", since otherwise, neighboring countries in the region might be a bit more worried about the military/naval/airbase construction, and the precedent that is being set by China.

You forgot "immobile" aircraft carrier. Or an airfield in other words.

Don't need to sink it if you can reduce it to a sea-level blackened smear. Carriers can release strikes and then zoom away at high speed.

LOL (cynically) "We need to go out, to make our contribution to regional and global peace,"
So say them all.
Funny the only guy who really wants peace is Mr Chen my greengrocer :)

Tell me it's going to be a scale model of Great Britain, the original unsinkable aircraft carrier.

We can sink it just fine. It would only take a tiny fraction of the nukes it would take to sink the UK, too.

This appears more a political stunt than actual military capability.

And against Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei and Malaysia it's more than enough.

Um, no, it has real military applications against weaker foes.

Sure, the USA could deal with it, but most other nations will not be able to, and short of an all-out war, it definitely gives the Chinese a significant capability they didn't have before, and are unlikely to have in the future, for a decade, or so, e.g. a real carrier force, with operational naval jets and trained carrier-capable pilots and support personnel.

Additionally, it won't be adversely affected by rough sea states either, giving Chinese pilots a backup runway, if needed, when they can't use their carrier(s) due to that.

That's what I said.
