A bit morbid I'm afraid, but just finding out about Allen Curtis gave me a moment of 'mortality reality'.

Bill, do you have any plans to turnover the reigns to another fellow hobbyist or…..?

alien BLOODY HELL surfer21 Nov 2014 11:02 a.m. PST

well, Bill has a small team of assistants, being trained in the running of TMP, with the view they can then run the site whilst he builds TMP 4.0 so maybe one of them would continue it as it stands. A morbid thought though and at first I had to check to see if this was a thread created by a sock puppet trying to cause trouble! (apologies for that)

Tank Top21 Nov 2014 11:14 a.m. PST

I imagine it would be sold off as part of his estate and the money go to his relatives if he dies "on the job", but imagine he hopes to sell it on when he retires.
I suppose it depends on how much it would be worth at that point and if there was a buyer?
Who can predict that though? Technology changes so fast and we maybe talking 10-20-30 years. What will TMP be like then? What will wargaming be like then. How many of us will still be around? Will this sort of thing be popular enough to pay someone to run a forum fulltime?

David Manley21 Nov 2014 11:38 a.m. PST

Has Bill been grooming a successor I wonder?

wminsing21 Nov 2014 11:45 a.m. PST

Burn it all down, viking funeral style. ;)

One thing about the miniatures page that confuses me is the number of respondents who feel qualified to answer a question specifically directed to a particular member, in this case the editor in chief. Considering the nature of this question I feel doubly confused by the speculation, I get the humorous replies I hasten to add. Maybe my manners gene is being overly sensitive.

David Manley21 Nov 2014 11:52 a.m. PST

I was kind of assuming that if the question was posed solely at Bill it would have been sent directly to Bill, rather than posted in open forum for everyone to contribute to.

Tank Top21 Nov 2014 12:03 p.m. PST

What David said, no point in putting private mail on an open forum otherwise!

skippy000121 Nov 2014 12:40 p.m. PST

I'm sure he has a Deadman Switch. :)

Since I'll be dead, I may not get a vote. grin

I would like to see the editors continue to run TMP when I'm gone.

So Bill, how are you feeling? Get regular check-ups and all? Not planning any dangerous trips or activities?

Moe Ronn21 Nov 2014 1:11 p.m. PST

If it's a milk bucket-no crying at the funeral.

Doing well, seeing my doctors regularly, but you never know…

David Manley21 Nov 2014 1:38 p.m. PST

Of course now that the editors know they are in line to pick up the mantle, and that would come with a substantial pay rise……..

:)

Have people lost all sense of propriety and civility. It's none of our business what the editor does with his forum in the event of his passing. Should that unfortunate turn of events come to pass, I would hope that the people on this forum would be more concerned with the editor and his family and less concerned with the "Where's my TMP?!?" hand-wringing. Come on people, leave the man in peace and don't be thrusting reminders of mortality in his face every moment. This seems so ugly and egocentric, like greedy heirs arguing at the death-bed's side about what they will get while the legator lies dying. Very tawdry indeed.
For most of human history TMP was not here. For most of future history it will likely not be here. Take the opportunity to enjoy it while it is here and don't selfishly whine about what-if's right in front of the editor's nose. Please show some class and respect!
Sheeesh!

What a lovely topic to post…

Mike Petro21 Nov 2014 2:56 p.m. PST

Was intended to be a very light-hearted question. Don't blow this out of proportion.

Sorry if you are offended, but I would post this question again. I see no harm.

And … I wish Bill nothing but a long and happy life. So keep your comments about "greedy" hand-wringing and the sort to yourself. THAT is over the top.

olicana21 Nov 2014 3:04 p.m. PST

How will you ever know?

The editors will put him in his armour, strap him to a horse and have it gallop up and down a beach in sight of Frothers HQ all day.

Mike Petro21 Nov 2014 3:10 p.m. PST

Fine…Bill can you edit the topic to "TMP…When Bill Retires"

Seems more PC for our "sensitive" members.

Disco Joe21 Nov 2014 3:48 p.m. PST

I thought Bill had plans on becoming a vampire so that he would then become immortal. As look as he stays out of the sun that is.

raylev321 Nov 2014 4:26 p.m. PST

Bill = TMP
Dead Bill means ….. dead TMP

platypus01au21 Nov 2014 5:06 p.m. PST

Isn't TMP a business?

So when Bill decides to retire, wouldn't he try and sell it like a normal businessman?

Cheers,
JohnG

I would like to see the editors continue to run TMP when I'm gone.

Well if you really can see them after your dead that would be one hell of a trick.

<I thought Bill had plans on becoming a vampire so that he would then become immortal.

No, I thought his plan was to up-load his consciousness to the cloud. It seems more his style.

Disco Joe21 Nov 2014 8:20 p.m. PST

But remember vampires are in. The cloud is not.

TerraGenesis was sold some years back. The process looked seamless, some changes were made, and it's still there.

But not wishing anything to happen anytime soon, so live long and prosper, Bill.

Tank Top22 Nov 2014 8:08 a.m. PST

Will Tango be bundled with TMP or will he be a separate lot?

The Beast Rampant22 Nov 2014 8:58 a.m. PST

He'll be installed in his massive life-sustaining Golden Throne, while psychically commanding masses of grotesquely cyborged minions to manage TMP affairs.

Tango0122 Nov 2014 12:36 p.m. PST

Ha!Ha!Ha! (smile)
