After my move from the US to Turkey forced me to part with about 150 books (including most of my Osprey Collection) I bought a Android Tablet and got Kindle with it, so that I would never need to part with my books ever again.

In these 5 months I have bought and read more military history than in a year. Many books, including rulebooks I would never buy before, are now happily resting in my android in pdf or kindle form.

I know it is not the best (the real book is better), and I know that it raises grave issues of piracy and corporatism. But please, do consider uploading your stuff.

I prefer PDF as the format is better and I always have the option of printing. Kindle format doesn't allow printing and no colour pictures.

The Calibre software provides format conversion functions. I have used it to put a number of works on my Kindle that are not otherwise available in Kindle format.

It's free too!

I have kindle books and rules with colour pictures. Although they are B&W on my Kindle (I have a old kindle) they are colour on my iPad and PC.

Calibre will not work with DRM books unless you add a plugin though.

How does buying legitimate copies for Kindle promote raise grave issues of piracy? That is an illogical statement?

Corporatism? Bleeped text? Corporations provide a lot of great products that keep us alive and living well. And Osprey is hardly Microsoft…

And a lot of Microsoft software doesn't work on my MAC. Choices have (good and bad) consequences.

I own a nook and I just have to choose wisely what I buy for it when I am shopping online.

PDF is my selection of choice for rules I won't use much or only buy for research into different mechanism for my gaming, which I store on my MAC and back up in Dropbox (plus DVD for frequently used rules.

I still like hardcopy in my messenger bag for when I travel. I am a printer's son and books rules.

Kindle fire shows color pictures just fine. PDFs are not a problem. You do have a pretty good choice out there. I think even Warlord Games has started putting there rules in PDF format. They also have Bolt Action in PDF.

A bit clam has never done a person wrong. There are programs to strip the DRM from a Kindle version of a document, which then permits you to turn it into a pdf. Some people then put those pdfs on torrents. You could claim one could do that with scanner, but the danger remains.

On Corporatism, while I have no issue with it, others do. Just because I gain from it, it does not shoo away that fact that some people are losing their livelihood because of these changes, and indeed at ages in which just changing a career is not that simple. You probably know that better than me.

I have nearly all the bolt action books on my Kindle, and got them cheaper, in verious sales, than they are now. Although I would say they are best read on my iPad.

Yassou,
I almost hesitate to ask, and probably will regret it, but just what is your definition of "corporatism"?

KTravlos21 Nov 2014 9:29 a.m. PST

the increasing centralization of production or distribution of goods in the hands of a very small number of corporations.

Let us not expand on this on a site on toy soldiers and war-gaming. Already I have crossed the line.
