"The Achzarit (in Hebrew: "cruel", female inflection) is a heavily armoured armoured personnel carrier manufactured by the Israeli Defence Forces Corps of Ordnance. The Achzarit is based on the Soviet T-54/T-55 tank, beginning with those captured from Arab armies during the Arab-Israeli wars. The IDF took the old T-55 tank and removed its turret and the chassis was modified for troop carriage by adding a troop compartment and a rear door. The original Soviet-made water-cooled diesel engine was replaced with a more compact and powerful diesel engine, and other internal systems were upgraded. Reactive armour was installed over the original armoured tank chassis. The APC was created in 1988. The Achzarit Mk 1 has a 650-hp engine, while the Mk 2 has an 850-hp engine"

The Achzarit (in Hebrew: "cruel", female inflection) In more idiomatic English, that might be "Cruella". I can't wait for the kit of the 101 Dalmatians. |

Zippy, the word that comes to my mind for an English translation of "the female inflection of 'cruel'" is the 5-letter word for 'female dog' that stars with a "b" and ends in "itch." And honestly, it's not a bad idea. T55s are everywhere, and I'm sure most countries would want to consider protecting their troops once they really start training them. Aren't the Russians building T55 based heavy APCs? But I think the Jordanian MAP Heavy APC ( link ) is better. Built off a Centurion chassis that's been widened 45cm to provide a lower exit path out the back, it also has a front exit. |

Definitely excellent use of surplus, captured enemy armor. Very ingenious. |

Thought was a good idea. The IDF re-used a lot of captured equipment. Some captured equipment was given to the US for study. I crawled around a few … |

Good idea for an obsolete tank. A possible weakness in the design is the 'clam shell' rear door that telegraphs the passengers leaving although Israeli doctrine demands infantry dismount well away from the enemy. Pity the model isn't in a wargaming scale. |
