Apparently another victim of Xi's continuing anti-corruption campaign.

Opinions still differ about whether Xi (who as President, cannot be entirely unfamiliar with corruption) is serious or is using this as a tactic to replace the old guard with his own people. There is no reason why it cannot be both of course.

But the longer this goes on, the more it is looking like a genuine attempt to reduce corruption in China. If that is the case, sooner-or-later it will be a game changer for both the Chinese economy and the military.

Insiders say Xi wants to be remembered as a great reformer, and be compared to Deng XiaoPing. Significantly reducing corruption in China (eliminating it would be too much to ask for) would do that, and be a great public service.

If only more corrupt officials did the same thing.

How can this possibly be about wargaming?

It is on the Ultra-modern board, and quite likely to affect the future development and performance of the PLA Navy, as political appointees are replaced by professionals. Maybe.

I agree with you there, Thomas, though if that were to occur there would be an awful lot of vacancies for office.

Of course, a suspicious person like me would like to see any security video footage from the area where he reportedly "jumped" from, since that might prove interesting as well.

I suspect there will be little inquiry into the circumstances around his "suicide".
