Over the last couple of weeks I've been busy in Fossywick Shipyards carving away at various ship hulls, working out the best, sturdiest, cleanest way to produce wooden galleys with the most detail. I think I finally have all four ship types and variations good-to-go and ready for production.
Here's a couple of pics of my Turkish style galley, cleared for action and showing off the new "reload" smoke marker. In "Oar'd you glad you have guns!" (working title… ahem) after a ship has fired, upon it is placed a marker to reflect the guns are empty and needs to roll for reloading next turn. I wanted a way to clearly show this on the table/ships but don't want a lot of marker clutter. One night it hit me- smoke markers! They fit the ships guns (and don't fall off during movement) and are pleasing to my aesthetic. "Yay" for getting one right! for more, aim your guns towards my blog skullandcrown.blogspot.com Cheers! Nice looking boat. What will they retail for? |

Just to be clear, you can use 6mm figures with these? |
Glengarry5 | 20 Nov 2014 8:35 p.m. PST |
I think Alder and Heroics & Ross might have suitable 6mm figures. |

Yes. Here are pictures of the ships with 6mm "turks" (about half way down the page). link |

I'm the guy who put 6mm minis on one of Thomas' galleys. The ones I used were Heroics & Ros. Adler doesn't make the correct period for these galleys, but you can also use 6mm minis from Irregular and Baccus. |

Thomas, that smoke/fired marker turned out perfectly! |

Thanks Gents for the feedback. Glengarry, I just ordered some 18th Century Turks (A Janissary is a Janissary) and Wars of the Roses (a guy in a sallet…etc) Baccus models to use as some crew. I'm going to make "boarding crew" markers with probably 4 guys per marker, and see how it goes. I wish I could find some 6mm Knights of Malta- but think the WotR dismounted knights might serve. Joker- I don't want to commit to a price just yet, but I'm aiming for the same ballpark as some of the finer 1/200th scale galleys sell for. I can tell you that each ship will come with a set of finely printed flags/banners/sails/awnings, as well as crew and "reload" tokens for my game. Cheers all Thomas skullncrown.com |
