For any fans of Imaro and Dossouye, Charles Saunders has a new fantasy novel just out, in a new (but still African) setting. "Abengoni" is his mash-up of Celtic and African cultures that he's been working on since the early 1990s; it sounds like it's more high fantasy (i.e. apparently there are dwarves!) than his previous low fantasy sword & soul stories.

Haven't ordered mine yet, but I will once I'm back from a trip next week, along with some other S&S offerings: mvmediaatl.com

Some of the back story is here on Mr. Saunders' site (under Blog): charlessaunderswriter.com

Gaming related, I have a 2mm Nyumbani big battle project and a 10mm African-fantasy skirmish project with Eureka's awesome (but too small!) range. Just found out about Magister Militum's cool fantasy range, which I'm going to use to supplement this too now.

Thanks for this! Saunders is a gifted writer who has never had the commercial success his work deserves.

Yes, the stories in the first two Imaro books and Dossouye are some of the best heroic fantasy I've read, and I love the change of setting (wish there was more non-European stuff). He's been in a few of anthologies lately, and his stories are the best in those (except where he was up against Joe Lansdale).

Did you check out his pulp novel "Damballah"?

I'm pretty excited, been waiting for this one for a while.

Isn't that a Viz character – Charles Saunders and his double entendres?
