A whole French Waterloo army army (there's a parallel one for the Allies) for under 300 quid!

I almost wish I was starting Naps instead of just filling holes!

You will not believe how many times I've dipped my toe but never commited to Napoleonics. And 20mm seems the perfect scale in cost, detail and ground/table space.

Agreed, and Newline are excellent sculpts.

@ D6 Junkie

They match in with plastic 1/72 figures quite well:

A game we had a couple of years ago that uses "blended" armies of plastic & metal:

A large part of my Austrian army is Newline, and they are very nice figures indeed. I particularly like their Uhlans, and of course, the price is excellent.

I didnīt find any plastics I liked for British peninsular army, so I will be going with Newline for those fellows as well.

Interesting that you find they mix well, as I found SHQ/Kennington to be a better match – Newline sometimes seem a bit "boys to men" for me. But nice pics anyway, and I guess on the table it probably just does not show – I should stop being so fussy grin

Are there are sites / blogs with comparisons of Newline's 10mm figures? I seem to recall there was. I'd be grateful to anyone who has a link.

Cheers!

@ Marc-
Sitting next to each other in their storage box then you can certainly see the Newline are smaller than their Italeri comrades in arms, but on the table you really donīt notice it at all. I think the only time I did notice a difference was when my Newline Uhlans went head to head against some Italeri French hussars, but it certainly didnīt take away from the pleasure of the game, nor the pleasure of seeing the hussars routed grin

And oh goodness, now they are having a 25% off sale!

Newline Designs Napoleonics are indeed a lovely range of figures. As D6 Junkie says 20mm is the perfect size for this period. I bought some of these a few years ago and was hooked – wish I'd come across them sooner, and at £9.50 GBP for a 'unit' of 24 infantry very good value (about 40p each, the same or less than many 15mm ranges).
The sale beckons and with Christmas nearly here a perfect excuse to buy a 'few' more.

Newline muskets are robust as well -I can't praise these figures highly enough!!!
Also the variety -just look at this lot.

I've just been amassing 28mms -I am seriously thinking about getting into 20mm as well.
Can somebody start talking me out of it…

Okay: Donīt do it mashrewba, donīt do it.Did I mention they have 25% off? Donīt do it… evil grin

Beeker: I use a lot of their stuff with my 10mm ancients, usually mixed with Pendraken, Magister Militum, a few Irregular Miniatures, and odd and ends from elsewhere. I post pictures from time to time on the Pendraken forum, so that's a way to see some.
I go by the name of FierceKitty.

Thanks Sobieski – any chance you are familiar with the now defunct Armies in Miniature range (AIM) that was put out by MINIFIGS NorthAmerica? If so how would they compare?

Cheers!

I love the Newline Napoleonic infantry, my only caveat being that some codes have no figure variation within them, unforgivable these days. This may well be down to the fact that some of the older figures were sculpted 30-odd years ago when such propositions as variable poses, which we now take for granted, weren't widely catered for. I remember getting hold of a sample Old Guardsman/march attack in my youth, and I swear that the currently available figure is the same one! Having said that, the range has been massively expanded over the years and is now enormous, which is to be applauded.

I do have a problem with the Newline Napoleonic horses, at least the early ones produced, because they have the stature of overgrown whippets! They're far too slim and look distinctly odd when viewed from the front or back I'm sorry to say.

Btw, I've just put an order in for a bunch of French infantry and generals. I do hope that the later horses have been fed properly!

It is curious that Newline are offering these fantastic army deals on French & Allied Waterloo armies but the Prussians don't get a look in.

That funny chap who wrote the Waterloo trio of books would be disturbed, I'm sure.
