Sent me his OGABAS rules. I have read them and will try them over the Thanksgiving weekend. The fact that he took the time to read my email then send the rules to me with a kind note blew me away. Truly a gentleman and a scholar.

We have a good share of those types here on TMP.

Jim Duncan in the UK was kind enough to send me his old Middle Earth rules from the 70's.

@FABET01

I always thought that generosity of this nature was an 'Old School' thing or maybe at least a generational thing. The OP supports this theory.

The theory was blown away at a recent show where I was selling on behalf of my recently deceased best friends charitable donation. A bunch of kids (students I believe) were eye-balling some figures but went away saying they had no money and couldn't afford to buy. One of them ran back and handed over a £2.00 GBP coin as a contribution to the donation.

This was not an isolated incident and certainly not tied to a generation.

Got my copy as well. Great fellow…the rules look top notch!

Otto is indeed a very generous individual. He sent me copies of the vintage rulesets Le Kriegspiel/The Wargame, and when I asked him how much I owed him for his time and trouble, he merely asked me to pay it forward.

A true gentleman. Thank you, sir!

Ditto to all the comments about Otto!

His "Honey I Sacrificed the Kids" game reads a hoot!

@Jim

That's really nice to hear. You should post that kind of experience here when you come across them. TMP could sure use more positive stories about the hobby.

@FABET01

I think there is supportive generosity all over the hobby and you are correct in that it should be reported on TMP as well as other places. The instance I mentioned above was reported on my blog.

I'm sure that Otto will support that viewpoint. What goes around comes around.

I recently received a box of ships, as a gift, quite out of the blue. I will certainly use them once I have sorted them out and will report as such on my blog.

Earlier this year I shipped a few dozen early Minifigs figures to a webfriend in the States and received a few dollars towards the charitable donation I am collecting.

I can think of other instances of gifts, in both directions and I cannot believe that I am unique in these.

If you have a story to tell then tell it!

I just got my package from Otto, too. I only have read "Honey, I sacrificed the Kids". Typical of his sense of humor. And typical of his generosity.

If you want to "pay it forward" consider coming to the Weekend.

Dear Tacitus, Jim Duncan, Fabet01, Bowman Roderick, Cloud Captain, Svsavory, and all the ships at sea!

Why thank you all! That's very nice and very heartening from you wahile I can't say it's Old School, but we're all sort of nerds and geeks, and we all have to stick together and be nice to each other. The postage isn't really much, and if it brings happiness to people that's more than reward enough.

Thanks for the kind words.

Otto

Dear Guys

Oh, one more thing. I sent most of you just the rules booklet for the game. if you want to do some serious noodling around with it, let me know and I'll run off a few decks of combat results cards and the event deck, initiative cards and victory cards.

Thanks again

Otto
