Well, I'm almost ready to start painting my Bones Cthulhu and as I was sitting there planning it out, I got a big dose of "painter's block." So, I'm throwing my hands up in frustration and kindly asking if you guys can post pics of your paint schemes or ideas for a cool scheme. It doesn't have to be just on the Bones Cthulhu. Any painted Cthulhu will be fine.

Did Lovecraft ever describe what color Cthulhu was? I read the books over 20 years ago and can't remember if it was ever mentioned. In any case, any input from anyone interested in helping purge my creative block is greatly appreciated!

Thanks All! :)

A google Image search shows him depicted as usually green or blue, and sometimes reddish or brown, but almost always very dark.

"Everyone listened, and everyone was listening still when It lumbered slobberingly into sight and gropingly squeezed Its gelatinous green immensity through the black doorway into the tainted outside air of that poison city of madness."

You know… after watching the special on cuttlefish and since Cthulhu is always compared to octopod head, I had the idea that Cthulhu would change his colors and use patterns that enhance the insanity.

So, what you're saying is he should wait for improved flexibility of conforming LCD displays to wrap the figure.

Tricky, but I think the viewing would have ME gibbering. ;->=

I tend to think dark green, even more so with inks and washes, but slight iridescence. Gelatinous sez, to me, 'slick/wet', and not just shiny.

You could try looking at the webcomic "Unspeakable Vault.". Not only is it an entertaining look at Cthulu, but you will get some painting ideas.

Check Ospreys' 'Necronomicon Non-Euclidian Combat Spectoscropic Psionic Camo-patterns' and R'ryleh Rendering Acrylics' from Roerich Models. Say that fast ten times before a Hound of Tindalos takes a chunk out of you.

And don't forget Picknans' number ten brush. They don't spark out.

I was planning to use a scheme with 'the color out of space' and some reddish highlights, but I realized that it would annoy my neighbors if it sapped the life force of their pets.
So I'm just going with creepy flesh tones, with maybe a little greenish hue.
