In late January, Ganesha Games will launch FIGHTIN' FUNGI, its first miniatures kickstarter. The KS will seek funding for a line of 28mm "mushroom men" and accompanying Song of Blades and Heroes-based ruleset. The first six models will be sculpted by Micah Nichols based on concept art by Andrea Sfiligoi who will also write and illustrate the rulebook. More models will be available as stretch goals if the funding is met.

You can preview some concept art on my blog: link

Those look great! Good luck with the project.

morrigan18 Nov 2014 9:15 a.m. PST

This instead of several rulesets that have been promised and not realised?

Zargon18 Nov 2014 2:00 p.m. PST

Wonderful art but mushrooms are for eating or tripping :)
Cheers.

Morrigan, this is a small project on my part, the hard work is done by the sculptors and the people taking care of the business part. The rules are already 90% written and tested.

I am working on a lot of projects at the same time, and the finalization of a project in many cases depends on the enthusiasm and cooperation of local playtesters.

Other projects may stall for a long time because I am not 100% convinced about a rule or something, or because the end product is very different from what I had in mind.

I do this for a living so I must budget my time.

Zargon, mushroom men have been a (small) part of fantasy gaming since the 1st edition of DnD :-)

TeknoMerk19 Nov 2014 7:57 a.m. PST

I like the concept art in that it captures a sinister feel, instead of a whimsical one.

I'm thinking about those Shrooms in a post-apocalypse setting like Gamma World, Darwin's World and Metamorphosis Alpha…

TeknoMerk,
sure, I'll be using them in Mutants and Death Ray Guns too.

Gokiburi19 Nov 2014 11:40 p.m. PST

I'm not sure if I myconeed them, but I mycowant them.

Hey Andea, don't apologise for your release schedule. Your games are superb and produce many hours of fun for lots of wargamers, young and old.
I think you are one of the most important companies in the business. Your rules allow people like my kids or none wargamers to be able to pick up a game easily and enjoy the hobby, maybe in time becoming full paying customers of other wargame businesses, thus keeping the hobby going. Release what you want when you want, when its ready to your satisfaction.
Hmmm, do I need homicidal mushrooms? I think I do!

boy wundyr x20 Nov 2014 8:02 a.m. PST

Hmmm, didn't think about them in a post-apoc sense, that's an interesting take. I suppose they could also be giant mushroom men in the Splintered Lands' anthropomorphic animal setting too.

I GM'd a MDRG-inspired rpg game for a few young players last year and one of the player-characters was a mutant mushroom biker on an (electric) Harley.

Our Kickstarter is live: link

A few minutes into it and we are already a staff pick, so that will likely create some interest if we end up in the KS newsletter.

I have sent in an official news release at TMP about this, feel free to send in your comments and suggestions.

We hit basic funding in 24 hours. Thanks guys! We will be adding more figures as stretch goals.

Ganesha Games Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Jan 2015 11:11 a.m. PST

We now have 101 backers and our first stretch goal is unlocked, with other two being very close.

Ganesha Games Sponsoring Member of TMP22 Jan 2015 6:45 a.m. PST

108 backers now and also the second and third stretch goals have been unlocked. Our sculptor has already finished the archer and the multi-option infantry and is now working on the Dread Matanagar. link

New concept artwork for stretch goal figures have been revealed – see the header of the page.

We have added a pillbug rider, a fungi warrior queen, an amazon fungus, a swamp fungus monster and a mykityad (mushroom nymph). More figures coming.

Muerto24 Jan 2015 7:06 p.m. PST

A great idea making the exclusive figure an add-on for lower-level pledges.

Do you think work-in-progress sculpts for some of the stretch goals will be shown before the campaign's end?

Ganesha Games Sponsoring Member of TMP26 Jan 2015 7:23 a.m. PST

Muerto
we certainly hope so, the archer was already sculpted and can be seen in the comparison pic on the landing page.

As far as I know, the sculptor is working on the spellcaster and matanagar.

We hope to have a few of the core 6 figures cast and painted before the end of the KS.

We added a pig-riding halfling truffle hunter which will be unlocked if we reach a certain number of backers irrespective of the money they pledge.

I have posted a pre-playtest list of the point values in Fightin' Fungi in the comments section of the kickstarter, you can copy it and paste in a SOBH builder while we are working on a proper builder. link

The Beast Rampant26 Jan 2015 7:24 p.m. PST

I am very excited about the new rules, and the multi- pose funguys. I'm also liking a lot the newer designs.

I will be tossing in my cash in a day or two.

We just made the Fightin'Fungi calculator available link

The second link from top of the page is the Fightin'Fungi BETA warband calculator.

Beast Rampant, thank you in advance!

TwinMirror10 Feb 2015 11:53 a.m. PST

Hi there! I asked the following on the sorcerer release News page, but thought I'd copy it here just in case:
Is it possible to get the free shipping that most pledges enjoy, if I pledge at the $1 USD USD level and add a bunch of minis to it?
Because while I like the armed and humanoid fungi, I'm most interested in getting the unarmed brute types to use as myconids and other semi-sentient fungusman types.

Cheers, and looking forward to getting in on the KS while there's still time!

I have to ask Damon who takes care of the business part of things.
