Introducing yet another blog ( marksgamingblog.blogspot.co.uk ) . I am still new to blogging so any advice, comments or tips would be most welcome.
I am also new to TMP as a member, although I have wargamed and have read TMP posts for many years.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to both the blogosphere and TMPosphere, I have had a look at the blog and great start.

My tip would be to put a Follower / Google+ button on your blog to help generate regular readers, also when you post on here if you put your blog address on a seperate line it will act as a link to your blog, most people are inherently lazy and a one click link will increase traffic.

Enjoy, Ken

Yes, a Follower button is required.

Welcome to the blogosphere…

Had a look at your blog and a few things spring to mind

1. Recommend you introduce more pictures…lots more pictures.

2. Its a bit white, I would recommend introducing some kind of background to bring it to life.

Personally I will be drawn to blogs that have lots of eye candy (big pictures please) and have a certain aesthetic charm. This probably opens me up to loads of criticism with my Shed wars blog

All the best with your future posts…remember once you start the discipline of keeping it going becomes paramount.

Thanks for the comments so far. I will add a Follower button asap. I did not think to put my blog address as a single line to act as a link, so repeat the address below.

As for being a bit ‘white', I have a scientific research/academic background so pages of plain text is my natural way of communicating, but I take your point about jazzing things up and will experiment a bit. Photos always pose a problem for me; I get so involved in games that I totally forget to use my camera! I am the same in normal life. I can visit a new city, return home a week later and have to explain to the wife and friends that I didn't take any photos of St Basil's or the Brandenburg Gate or whatever! I just need to concentrate a bit more and think (this applies to my gaming as well).
I fully agree that a blog must be regularly updated and not allowed to stagnate. I intend to add 4-6 posts per month but will not be surprised if this falls to 3-4 posts. I really hope people will be moved to comment on the posts I make. The fact that people are reading and responding will act as spur to further submissions.

Snowydog, less excuses and more pictures. Get with the blogger programme. We are all as thick as pig doodahs so we need illustrated stuff. When it comes to pictures read

"No Moet no Show-et, No Chandon no band on."

Academics we have plenty of, show us the porn.

Hi some nice content there.

Some thoughts. I would add more illustrations, make sure they are downsized, so they are web friendly, particularly for mobile devices.

Set a limit to the number of posts per page, I have always thought 3 is about right.

Play with your fonts, the next size up might help as your posts are word heavy (not a bad thing).

I wouldn't worry too much about how much you post, your posts seem solid, so a couple of interesting solid posts per month is better than weekly (or more) updates of something weaker.

I notice above your chart you have a formatting problem (at least on my safari) there is a big gap there. I actually thought the page had ended and it was only when I saw your list of labels that I new there was probably more on the front page. Not sure how you get around that, but the gap needs to be dealt with.

Overall I think your blog has a good start and that people will 'follow you' for your thoughtful approach to the subject matter. Hope some of this helps.
