Thats what happens when a Star Destroyer hits a space buoy. I think the term is bification!

Anatomically speaking it's bifurcation (eg of the aorta, trachea etc). Heaven knows why we had to learn all these terms which have a simple meaning (splitting in 2) but irritating names for it – then you get on to distal, proximal, sagital, coronal, valgus, varus and so it goes on :-(
