We've had quite a number of trolls attempt to set up TMP memberships using email accounts provided by "disposable email" services. I'm thinking to make it a rule that a disposable email address is unacceptable for membership. Am I missing something? Is there ever a case where a disposable email address would be appropriate? (If you don't know what a disposable email address is, then your email address is probably fine. ) |

Ummm, I'm assuming mine, and probably those of many others may be, since I use Hotmail and Yahoo, so yes, that would impact me, and probably many others as well. |

Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail are not disposable email address services. Disposable email services are companies like incognitomail, mailnesia, tempsky, discard.email, and so forth. link |

I have had mine since the Harding Administration. |

yep.. Hotmail here. I have had it since 1994. In that time I have switched ISP several times, and those email addresses have been superseded every time. The Hotmail address just soldiers on. Part of it is the mail list subscription and the web site membership associated with an email address. If I had to change all those every time I changed ISP it would be a nightmare. |

I agree…I would say that disposable email addresses should not be allowed. |

I had somebody try to register on WD3 with an e-mail address that would self-destruct after, I think, 30 minutes. An automatic rejection. |

Who'd want to troll TMP? Quick answer: link You can get carried away with pop-psychology but there seems to be more than a hint of resemblance between this definition & our "favourite" trolls.

Unless something has changed, it takes only a few seconds to set up a Hotmail or Yahoo account. How will this fix anything? I have several email accounts which I only set up for verification purposes and didn't want my main account spammed by whatever I was verifying. In most cases they even offer you a user name! Again, how would this help? You will never stop people wanting to troll, just as some here troll other wargaming sites under guest log ins. Its childish, but it is the way it is. Just ignore the trolls and talk about toy soldiers. |

The world being as it is I think any group should have the right to ask that a member provides a 'substantial / proper' email address. Joining a group is a voluntary act, if you don't like the rules don't join. This group is for bona fide hobbyists, why would a bona fide hobbyist need a disposable email? JezE, I think the thing might be something to do with traceability. If you are posting from a cyber cafe or something then it doesn't matter, but you have to be a proper troll to be bothered to do that. In this country (UK) you can be sued, even sent to jail, for what you write on the internet. We have had several people (angry no-marks) sent to prison for a few years for threats on twitter, etc. recently. They were traced through their internet provider via their email (etc.) accounts. |

One minute we need to have a poll to make rule changes and the next minute we don't. |
olicana | 15 Nov 2014 6:06 a.m. PST |
We never needed Bill to poll us. He might ask for advice occasionally…….and occasionally he forgets his editorial responsibility and becomes a bore……..and we must all remember this is not democratic site but one ruled by a (mostly) benevolent dictator. I have a question more relevant than this one (I think). Could he make the trains run on time? |

Any over-under bets on how long before Deephorse's constant harping about "the rules" gets him deep sixed? And on topic-- I think banning disposable email accounts is yet another band-aid on the festering sore that is the anti-TMP trolls… |

"This group is for bona fide hobbyists, why would a bona fide hobbyist need a disposable email?" They might have concerns that their bona fide email address might be disclosed without their permission. The email address I have lodged with TMP is my normal address, but given some of the recent events if I were joining now I would probably use a hotmail account or similar created solely for the purpose. |
