I am putting out a call for articles for the ACW Gamer's new sister magazine, which currently has the working title "Forging a Nation."

This will cover America's other Black Powder wars such as the French and Indian War, Pontiac's Rebellion, The American Revolution, the War of 1812, etc, up until the end of the Plain's Wars when metallic cartridges and repeaters became the norm. Other smaller conflicts such as the Mormon War, New York gangs, Bleeding Kansas, will be welcomed as well.

The Ezine will have the same format as ACW Gamer and will feature scenarios, rules, reviews and tutorials. I am very excited about this project and hope that you will be able to participate. The publication date for Issue 1 will be 15 March 2015 (the anniversary of Guilford Court House) so I would like to have submissions no later than 1 Feb 2015. Contact info@acwgamer.com

Also, don't forget, the ACW Gamer Gift Guide comes out on Black Friday and the terrain special comes out on 15 Dec 2014.

What are you paying for articles?

ACW Gamer15 Nov 2014 9:25 p.m. PST

There is no monetary compensation at this time. All contributing authors will receive the official 28mm miniature of the Ezine as well as a free copy of the issue their article was published in. Additionally, contributing authors are free to mention their blog sites, websites, books, rules, etc and include links. These links will be translated into "hot links" that the reader should be able to access from a PDF file.

The Catch-22 of this hobby's "press". They want quality articles to attract readers but they won't pay quality rates to get quality writing. They won't even pay pulp rates which have barely advanced in 80 years. Those publications that do survive do so almost exclusively on the vanity factor of writers who get to see their words published – and a few die hard hobbyists who do it for the love of the effort. Sadly, that results in very few truly good and knowledgeable articles. (And, yes, I suppose their might be an exception out there but I doubt it, I've contacted one of the largest publications and their rates are sub-pulpish).

All that being said, this does sound like a publication I'd be interested in reading, if only it attracts an adequate caliber of articles. So, good luck with the effort and I hope you succeed.

By the way, ACW, you missed a beat by not including a link to your writer's guidelines.

Ahhh…. I see what you did there, Terrement! Actually, I am working with a major sculptor now to create the official 28mm miniatures. : )

Early Morning writer,

The first Ezine, ACW Gamer, is very much a labor of love for it's writers. This commitment by its authors has resulted in a high quality magazine. So far, it has gotten positive feed back from people in 9 different countries.

I believe we will only get better each issue. My readers and I are thankful to all the authors that have made ACW Gamer such a success and we look forward to an even greater future.

Is there a link to the magazine website, or a sample article so we can see what we might be getting ourselves into?

ACW Gamer17 Nov 2014 12:40 p.m. PST

Maximus,

Forging A Nation will look a lot like ACW Gamer which you can see at ACWGamer.com. If you email me at info@acwgamer.com, I would be happy to send you sample articles and the guidelines.

I think you are going to like it.

Supercilius Maximus18 Nov 2014 1:02 a.m. PST

Keep getting "Error 404 – file not found" on that link.

I'll certainly email you, though.

I am so jealous of this ezine. I wish there was one for general warfare in the 1815-1914 era. I know there is the Continental Wars Society journal, but that is in print not pdf :(

ACW Gamer18 Nov 2014 7:28 a.m. PST

Maximus,

I made the error of not putting the full address! ACWGamer.com

KTravios, I am taking that as a complement ;)

KTravlos18 Nov 2014 10:54 a.m. PST

It is. And you put the right address, but included a period at com

Thank you Chris!

Ottoathome08 Jan 2016 2:56 p.m. PST

So let me get this straight.

You are putting out an Ezine and want people to write top notch quality articles for which they will not be paid anything, but YOU will be paid for subscriptions to the Ezine?

Do I have that right?

Ottoathome09 Jan 2016 12:47 p.m. PST

$12 USD for four issues of an E-zine! You've got to be joking.

"Saxe N' Violets gives you 16 pages at least of hard content which is PRINT and mailed to you for $10 USD a year.

ACW Gamer26 Aug 2016 2:00 p.m. PST

No, Otto the thread was updated on 5 Jan 2016 to say the Ezine WAS paying for articles.
