I was told to search for a convention where there are organized activities for the spouses on TMP. I know from a source that it was mentioned on TMP but details from my source is fuzzy. Located in Pennsylvania? Somewhere near the Canadian border? My source knows my wife wants to see Quebec (where she was born) in the next few years and she is/was a gamer, but not a war gamer.

So far, no luck with the TMP "search engine" because it finds many "hits" that are not what I am looking for.

At the HMGS cons, we offer Hobby University which many spouses spend time in. They learn painting, sculpting, etc. At Cold Wars, in March, we offer a ladies only game on Friday nights. The only men in the room are the GM and his assistants. It's a different atmosphere, and the ladies are more relaxed and have tons of fun.

Most conventions have a variety of games that are running. Spouses are often welcome to participate in them. If they don't want to buy a badge for the con, there are a lot of pick up games going on that they can probably jump into.

Best show in the UK for this is Campaign in Milton Keynes. The event takes place in a shopping mall and entry is free.

Pennsylvania has no border with Canada. The Big East cons are in south-central Pennsylvania, or Maryland, or northern Virginia, a long way from Quebec. There is little for wives & children that isn't wargame oriented, except to hunt through the frequent Dutch/Amish/Civil War themed antique shops.

Take your wife to Quebec. Then go to a wargame con by yourself.

Little Wars will be starting to have Spouse Activities offered with the 2016 Convention. At the last convention meeting some of the wives of the convention staff got together and asked if that could be done. So they will be working with the Hotel staff to identify suitable local places of interests. I know that shopping activities and a visit to a loacal winery are under consideration.

CanGames in Ottawa (Victoria Day weekend in May) is (from what I understand) a mini/board/rpg con, and just across the river is Quebec. Not sure if CanGames has specific spouse activities, but the diversity of gaming options may take care of that if she's interested in some gaming.

You just won't be close to Montreal or Quebec City, if that's where she wants to go in Quebec.

Geek Nation Tours had a non-geek option for Adepticon 2014, although I don't see a posting for 2015.

Mute Bystander,

If you check the Canadian Wargaming board, you will get a better idea of what is available in Canada. Sadly, there is no Montreal gaming convention at this time. I know because I've asked in the past.

Depending on your schedule, there are gaming conventions (Council of Five Nations outside Albany, NY in October; Carnage on the Mountain in VT in November and Huzzah in Maine (in May, if I recall correctly)) that will get you close to the Canadian border.

Lastly, in addition to the activities mentioned above, the HMGS conventions in Lancaster, PA (Cold Wars in March and Fall In in November) are also located near a number of outlet stores. Many spouses use the weekend to go shopping. When HMGS had conventions in Valley Forge, PA, many spouses attended to take advantage of the shopping at the King of Prussia Mall.

Hope this helps. Good luck in your search.

I like the assumption women like to shop…My wife goes to cons with me to get away from our 4 kids, lock herself in a room and catch up on shows that she normally can't watch at home.

Zippyfusenet, I know that, I am a professional geographer (well there is a maritime boundary on the Great Lakes, near Erie, right?) but my source was unsure about just where this wife friendly convention was located.

"Lancaster, PA."

"I think."

"Pennsylvania, I am pretty sure."

"You know, somewhere near the Canadian border…"

Alas, my source is an American from the Midwest…

And I am pretty sure it wasn't a major sized convention.

Supposedly, the wives had organized "group activities for the spouses" during the gaming sessions.

Mythic?

Not worried about the four kids since the last of the four and the only one living at home (21, in college,) is not interested in gaming.

Obviously not your kid--suspect the milkman. ;D
