……Then Mike had an idea….and some cash. When WotC came out with "Angels 20" he bought up the number of planes that appear in the game and enlarged the game display. Now the second Tuesday of every month is "B-17 Night" and thanks to Mike we've taken the game to all new heights! (Pun intended)…….

Very nice work! Now i want to dust off my copy of the game. |

My friend and I have been threatening to do this for years, but we never have done a thing about it – great to see it being done, and it might even influence us to pull a figure out. I love the idea of B-17 night. |

What scale are the minis, 1/144? Lovely looking game, B17 is a great game. |
Mako11 | 13 Nov 2014 5:22 p.m. PST |
Looks pretty neat. Been wanting to do that with a whole squadron, or battlegroup of bombers for some time now. |
Ed Mohrmann | 13 Nov 2014 5:46 p.m. PST |
Works well with 1/300 B-17's and B-24's. 9 to 12 per squadron, 2-4 squadrons to a Group, and if you really wanna, 3 Groups to a Wing. It is most impressive, even in 1/300, to look at 72 heavy bombers in formation on the way to target. |
jgibbons | 13 Nov 2014 6:05 p.m. PST |
Is the B17 from Angels 20 too? So how do you multiplayer – each player is one B17? I wpuld love more info as i have a copy of the game syashed away and you're inspiring me to dig it out! James |

Want a nailbiter?….make the Kiel run….. And walking hits are devastating on the planes….ouch! |

Now if you got the 1/48th scale Fortress with full interior… |
Great War Ace | 13 Nov 2014 7:50 p.m. PST |
"Kevin's got problems". Yah think!? Six Me 109s to one Fortress means a dead Fortress. Did Kevin drop out of the formation or what? Because that's the only way I know of for six German fighters to gang up on one B-17…. |
PzGeneral | 13 Nov 2014 8:07 p.m. PST |
*The minis are 15mm, 1/100 scale. *The B-17 isn't from Angels 20. Not sure where Mike got it….someplace on the internet…and it's supposed to be 1/100…but I think it's a tad small…. *When we do multi-player each person gets his B-17. We resolve the fighter attacks one wave at a time, one plane at a time. We go around the table finishing each planes attack before moving onto the next. We try not to play with more than 4 people…otherwise it gets too slow and too long between each players involvement. *Kevin got the 6 Me-109s by rolling a '25' on the fighter table. That gave him 5 attacking 109s PLUS he was the lead bomber…so he got an extra Me-109 each wave. He got out of that fight with his intercom shot out so he was allowed to abort the mission….lucky for him we were only in zone 2! (just outside England) We're only on Mission 8 so the runs are still short. We get 2 in each session (2-2.5 hours, we kibitz a lot too). When the mission get longer we may only get 1 in each night. And it was on Mission 8 we had our first Fortress go down. We've had many crewmen wounded and killed, but we lasted 8 missions before a B-17 was shot down…. |

What I want is the interior of the B17 with 25mm crew figures. |
jowady | 13 Nov 2014 10:48 p.m. PST |
What I want is the interior of the B17 with 25mm crew figures 1/48th scale is as close as you can get to 28mm in a kit, this isn't a complete interior but its a beginning. link link
link For this kit; link Now in 1/72 scale (close to 20mm) you have this option; link which has a fairly complete interior. |

Just bought a copy of the game from Essen. Been talking with clubmates about doing a big formation game.
Apparently some HC players in US used to play such games in classroom where each player was using a desk to represent his plane. All the desks were positioned as the planes were in the formation. Before the game they had a briefing about the mission using the chalkboard -not that different from the real deal. Al this is SHEER BRILLIANCE in my mind and I'm itching to do the same. |

link There is a B-29 version and on the same page is a Korean War supplement. |
Tom Reed | 14 Nov 2014 7:37 a.m. PST |
Is the game still available? One of the guys in my old gaming group ran it with mods so that we had multiple bombers on the table. It was crazy fun! |

If you're lucky it's available… auction |

Dave, Thank you for the additional info! |

"Been wanting to do that with a whole squadron, or battlegroup of bombers for some time now." About 25 years ago – maybe more – we ran it with then bombers. Great fun, even though only four reached the target and only one of those got any bombs anywhere near it. |

Tom Reed, sorry about the (mis)information. I should've said: "I bought an USED copy at Essen." For around 30 euros. It is an old Avalon Hill game that hasn't been reprinted…

Mako11 | 15 Nov 2014 4:04 a.m. PST |
I believe they've reprinted B-17, so you should be able to get it again, for a reasonable price. Not sure of the new manufacturer's name. |

Using our 3-D "Dogfight Flight Stands" you could run a great looking game, with 1/144th, or 1/300th scale aircraft, for bomber missions and fighter attacks on them:

E-mail: topgungrav AT Hotmail d0t com for more info about the "Dogfight Flight Stands" They have magnetic, swiveling heads, for easy and secure aircraft attachment, which can be positioned in virtually any attitude desired, and extend from 7" – 22" in height, with five antenna sections. They are great for WWI, WWII, or Modern air combat, as well as for use with spacefighters, starships, dragons, and other flying creatures too. |
