I recently bought some cigar box battle mats. They rock, perfect for throw down games. I got a desert, snow and European mat. Very nice quality. Hats off to the Cigar Box team. link Tom |

Those look great. Very tempting! |

I will do that. My wife likes them and wants to game on them, so that is a plus. I especially want to get one of your ocean mats, my wife likes Greek Naval battles. Thanks again!! Tom |

They look wonderful but 4 x 6 is too small! I need at least 6 x 8! Is that an available option? |
CBChris | 13 Nov 2014 8:28 a.m. PST |
2 mats sideway s = 6x8. cannot manufacture at that size, very expensive to go bigger. we have a number of mats that have art that connects, and are coming out with new designs to offer a greater selection of combinations. thank you all for the kind words! Chris |

I could use a Snow terrain mat. what is the website? Nevermind just saw it cigarboxbattle.com |

I saw one at Fall-In. Very impressed by the look and quality feel of the mat. The printing had a very nice effect that worked well with the 3D terrain and I liked that the edges of the mat were finished (hemmed). |

I played a couple All Quiet on the Martian Front games at Millennium this past weekend on one of these mats. One of the this that impressed me was that we were able to put some crumpled brown paper under the mat to make hills (hills are mostly cosmetic in AQMF). It really worked well. I'm seriously considering ording one or two of these. Geoxhex mats make me itch. I don't know if it's the ground foam or the dye, but they do. These new mats, because they are the same material as fleece sofa throws don't retain wrinkles, well at least not bad ones. They seem pricey, but I get that low volume translates to high prices (anyone who has thought about getting something custom screened with a logo can tell you that). There are somethings that I would change about them. For instance I wouldn't put pictures of trees on them. Instead I would make those area a darker green to act forest floor for my own trees. |
darclegion | 13 Nov 2014 12:18 p.m. PST |
Xray The trees on them still do the same thing as you said, I put some trees on top of them, and it just looks like dark shadows. I have a lot of trees though. tom |

XRaysVision – I will whisper the following very quietly… … Cigar Box Battle Mats just signed a licensing agreement with Alien Dungeon to produce AQMF mats based on the scenarios in the rulebook. Patience my friend… oh, and don't spill the beans just yet, oh wait, did I just do that? I'm starting the illustration on their first mat this weekend ;) Chris |

They look great. I will say… I wonder if maybe there shouldn't be trees included? Fields and bushes and stuff might not be that 3d, but maybe do those in the map but use real trees? |
XRaysVision | 14 Nov 2014 10:45 a.m. PST |
Darklegion, You're right, these screened trees are perfectly functional if that's the only place you want your woods. My thinking was that if the areas were simply a darker green they would be more easily ignored if that's not where you want them. Just a suggestion to improve the flexibility of the mats. Honestly, as pretty as the mats are, I think I would opt for simple all grass or desert maps for maximum flexibilty. These nice mats combined with vinyl roads and rivers would be a very nice combination. One drawback of the fleece is that it is very light. If sliding a stand snags it, the result could be upsetting (pun intended). If I do end up buying these I'll tape them down to table with masking tape. |

These look great, I would only change one thing on the European mat and that is remove the bushes to. Only fields nothing else. |

I just received my first Cigar Box Battle Mat. Very impressed. I ordered the grassland mat and received it in about two weeks. Initially I was going to design a 1/2 inch lip around my wargame table to facilitate painted drop in foam for terrain changes. However, I am not using a lip because it suits me much better to just use these battle mats. Excellent product. |

I would go with the grassland and the snow mats. The mats with roads and woods on them are not as useful. They take away the flexibility of using your own terrain and restricts the scenario. |

Just ordered one of the plain grass mats. If I like I will order some more. Need to get a couple of the tundra. |

Chris, What mats have art that goes with/matches other mats? I would like to pick some up for some bigger games. |

Some pals and I are just about to order a few of these. My chums are going for the plain green, but I like the idea of the European 1 & 2. They look as though they should join up along one of the long edges….is this so? In my case it's mainly for my 20mm WW2, and as a transportable playing surface for club games. So I m having angst about the size of the roads,…. 3" width might be very limiting in play choices, but would 1" width look daft with a 3" tank moving along it?? But I could use the 1" width road mats for my 15mm and 6mm Naps, 1/300 armour, etc. Decisions decisions…… If you have bought a mat with the 3" road width, are you satisfied that you can cover enough periods/scales with it? Oh yeah, UK players, it's $60 USD for shipping, is that recorded delivery? And did you have to pay import taxes? |

Ok, the deal is done. I have just placed my order. Reading the europe2 blurb it specifically states it links with the europe1 mat, so that's my question answered! There is quite a lot of woods on Europe2, and right in the middle of your deployment area. Fine for WW2, deploying your crafty SS in the cover of the woods…. but not so good for other periods. Guess where my built up area will be going? :) For 20mm WW2 I will deploy my own 2" wide roads as main roads on the top. The Poundshop brown mastic at £1.00 GBP a tube does yards of the things. Bit of a colour wash and dry brush, Job done. Hopefully Santa will be bringing it for me for Christmas. I'm trying not to think about 20% VAT on the order value. Hmm….CigarBox dudes….could you put printed map on the customs declaration please. I think that makes it zero rated. |

I received the grassland matt I ordered and it is very impressive. It was folded for shipment and there was not a crease in it. So what is best to store these when not in use? Should fold it or roll it? |

Hmmmmmmm well that's 20 days gone and nothing heard about the mats yet. Slightly concerned, given that I paid up front. Best practice here is that you only take payment as goods are ready to ship…. I don't want to lose my PayPal protection. What's the time limit? 30 days? |
Royston Papworth | 30 Dec 2014 8:52 a.m. PST |
I think that Paypal extended it, but way back when I had an issue ordering from the States (I'm in the UK) and Paypal said it was out of time, I called my credit card company (Paypal linked to a credit card) and they simply reclaimed the money from Paypal and refunded me. A simple and hassle free process. Which I suspect is not the case with Paypal… |

You're right Bindon, I checked it and it's 45 days. However, my mats are currently in customs! Yay! They want vat, (boo!) which I was expecting, but the Post-office have put on a handling charge too, which I wasn't. (double boo) So for other UK peeps thinking of ordering, for four mats postage was $60 USD, untracked. Taxes and fees a further £40.00 GBP I'll put some photos up when we get a game going. |

My Cigar Box mats arrived today from across the globe! I haven't had a chance to unpack them yet, but will be setting up a game soon. As there are a lot of woods on the mats I have also ordered a mega bag of Busch mixed forest direct from a German retailer. It's 50 trees of various types. I considered the very cheap Chinese trees, but being designed to simply push into a railway layout they come without a Base for each tree, and thry would also need some work to tone down the dayglo green. The Busch trees look realistic enough and are ready to go. I've also got some new buildings in the Christmas sales, including some Miniart Belgian style houses at 45% off. Ardennes here I come! I am finally getting there! |
