Things are heating up between Armenia and Azerbaijan again, with Azerbaijan shooting down an Armenian Mi-35 helicopter gunship:

Wait. I thought the Armenians were the Good Guys. Why do they have Russian helicopters?

Deadone12 Nov 2014 8:11 p.m. PST

They all have Russian helicopters. Even Brazil brought Hinds.

Even Canada used Russian helicopters in Afghanistan as the Mil CH-178 ( casr.ca/101-af-ch178-mil.htm.

Who the hell can afford American or European gear these days.

Seems like an awful lot of flashpoints going on around the globe, lately.

Wow. That's the first I've ever heard of the CH-178.

Didn't the US Army have a squadron or two of Hinds for a while? Not used in combat, but as OPFOR?

Deadone13 Nov 2014 3:18 p.m. PST

Lion, that's what I heard too. Apparently there's Mi-8. and AN-2 biplanes as well.

USAF operated quite a few MiGs as well – these were MiG-17s, MiG-21s and MiG-23s.

They flew test and evaluation and also aggressor training as part of the 4477th Test and Evaluation Squadron (Red Eagles)

Armenians good guys! They were in with the Nazis during WW2 and quite a few were involved in the Holocaust too. Sad for a nation that had genocide practised against them as well. No not 'good guys' just so called 'us' as opposed to 'them' depending who you believe or want to believe.
