Have been cleaning up some of my old stuff. Will be taking some of these and creating a updated version later. Ordered a few myself to checking the printability and will post those as soon as they get in and painted up. Aiakos Class Cruiser

In inches, how long/wide/tall are these, please? |
Bashytubits | 12 Nov 2014 12:55 a.m. PST |
If you click on the shapeways links it gives the dimensions for the models. |

Since the links are not identified as to source I don't click links indiscriminately simply as a matter practice. How well do the various materials take paint? |

I really, really, really wish Shapeways would upgrade their servers or whatever. I have tried repeatedly to click on the links and view the ships and fiddle with material options. It always sits there and doesn't do much, even using a different browser. This is nothing new, but it's the one thing that constantly turns me off of dealing with them; the difficulty in using their website. |

TheBeast/Doug, Thanks for you doing the heavy lifting you did, but now that I remembered you can hover over a link and get the URL (D'Oh) I feel semi-secure and will "drop by" Shapeways (and hold my breath in anticipation of the $$$.) |

Any chance of further designs in the same vein as the Aiakos Cruiser? I like the design quite a lot, and having some larger versions of it to represent heavier units with similar design characteristics would be nice. I would probably use the "Cruiser" as a Destroyer in my games, and having a couple larger versions (about 2-2.25" and 3-3.25" or so) would be a good way to round out a little fleet. :) If you don't mind, I'll post a picture of the Aiakos on the Full Thrust Facebook page and see if it generates any interest. |

What does "rubbery feel" mean? Does it feel like the old flexible plastic soldiers of my childhood? |

@ Doug, Many thanks for posting that up. The one thing I am wanting to try is the newly priced steel prints. IF the quality can be closer to cast minis, this might end up being my material of choice for certain designs. @ billclo, their are more designs similar to the Aiakos, just have to model them. But they are all sketched up. Also plan to start uploading my Galactic:Conflict in the Stars designs in 1:7000. |

White Strong and Flexible is a nylon-ish material, it takes paint quite well, especially if primed with auto primer. Frosted Detail is like clear plastic but needs special cleaning with Ethyl Alcohol before painting or priming. Haven't tried any of the others myself . . . |

Thanks for posting these. I must say I really like the look of some, others, "eeeh so-so" but to each their own of course. It always gives me a bit of a laugh, when any company releases any 'X-1000' scale Sci Fi miniature. How can any one even guess the size of models that have no reference in reality? As for Shapeways, I have seen some products that are nothing short of 'amazing'. In fact a fellow gamer at our local shop got his 'Formula de' cars from them and they are very well done. However, I have to agree with 'Billcio', whenever I try to use their website, it never seems to fail, that it DRAGs to the point you think your comp. has frozen up. Thanks again. |
