I currently am using Advent of Galactic Wars (A B5 Wars clone) for Star Wars. I like the rules a lot for when I am doing a couple of ships and a few squadrons of fighters. It bogs down when I get more than 4-5 ships per side though.

I am looking for a game which will go just a bit bigger, maybe 10 capital ships or less per side, and still give a good feel for fighters. I looked at the Demo version of Starmada, but fighters seem to be a bit too generic in them.

I still want to have the feel of unique fighters, with some squadrons being elite with bonus abilities because of their skill.

Any suggestions? Does the full version of Starmada allow for custom fighter squadrons?

I'll take a look at Full Thrust. It's free, which is a good thing!

Make sure to get the extended version (forget the real name), it has more options for fighters than the basic game (still free!)

I am waiting for Carrier Command by Two Hour Wargames. Larger forces than 5150 Fighter Command but smaller forces than 5150 Star Navy…

Caarrier Command is a supplement to be released this month of Fighter Command by THW. This supplement allows you to play small scale fleet battles with fighters being still the main weapon.
Think of the PC game Wing Commander and you will get a right picture.

Althought 10 capital ships per side, all of them launching fighters, it could be too much. I played comfortably with 4-5 capships per side.
Here you have two independent reviews of Fighter Command: link and link

Starmada Admiralty Edition allows complete Fighter design. You must have looked at the Nova Edition which has much less fighter detail.

Admiralty Edition can have heavy, fast, slow, light, torpedo, etc. Can model every kind of fighter in Star Wars.

Another vote for Full Thrust

This is the link for "Full Thrust Cross Dimensions" which includes all the most current rules in one pdf. There is at least one other version which has more options, but the name escapes me.

Full Thrust Cross Dimensions is IMHO the best, most playable version of the Full Thrust rules available. Give it a go!

Starmada Admiralty Edition has a VERY good starfighter creation system.

Another vote for FT, although Colonial Battlefleet is fun if you like playing on hex grids.

I've adapted Colonial Battlefleet for Star Wars, house-ruling things a bit to get about 20-odd types of fighters/bombers/shuttles to work in the game.

I have found some of the custom fighter rules for FT and it looks like it fits exactly. Thanks for the help!

Another vote for Full Thrust.

Check out the Facebook Full Thrust group as well as the Emerald Skunkworks.

The Facebook page has tons of fan created resources in its downloads section.

The Emerald Skunkworks is creating a version 2.0 of Full Thrust Cross Dimensions as well as collecting all known Full Thrust versions and all known Full Thrust resources into one site. All with permission of course. They are also working on creating updated Fleet Books for each of the official Full Thrust fleets so there are stats for all the ships that aren't in the old Fleet Books.

It's true: My Luddite tendencies are keeping me from awesome FT goodness AND latest info on the grandchildren.

@Landori Whose custom rules? Have a link?
