… on the Sambre (BLACK POWDER).
Quite interesting wargame. Love how they arrange the battle with pics of reenacting.

I like the fly in the middle of the third picture. All that work and some fly is there to block the French entrance. Nice figures and terrain (including the fly).

I'm more amused by the cloth river and faux bridge that the reenactor cavalry is using.

I like the empty pack of the French soldier who has fallen in the first picture. No soldier I've ever read about had an empty pack.

Training fly's to land and stay on cue is quite difficult I'm sure. Almost as difficult as learning about Napoleonic warfare.

langobard11 Nov 2014 3:21 a.m. PST

Its not an empty pack, his mates have already looted him…

Yes, this soldier's backpack evidently was so full that his tin beer mug dind't find space in it and had to be fixed outside.

Great of his comrades that they left this mug to him so that it could help to embellish his last minutes in life, just in case some beer would turn up …

Call me sad, but I thought the fake water, in the re-enactment, worked really well, in a photo anyway. Less convinced by the foot soldiers. Truly all were "Old" Guard and veterans, it would seem. Not all in the first flush of youth anyway………..

Now I understand what started the panic amongst Durutte's lot. Some daft poilu shouted "Fly, Fly!" and his mates misunderstood.

THAT is the "Secret of Waterloo", not Colborne's lot. I feel a book coming on!

Mind you, he could have shouted "Flea, Flea" with same result

Some really nice photos of both the game and the
re-enactors. Admittedly the artillery pieces of the re-enactors looked too small, but there were some nice units there, particularly the Prussians.
